UNSOLVED NEED EVERYONE'S HELP Logitech Click Smart 420
« on: July 06, 2011, 10:40:44 PM »
Does anyone have any clue as how to get the above mention web cam to work with PCLinuxOS? I have other web cams and they will not work either. Have a Jazz 178 and 179 Camcorder and a S-470S and can't seem to get anything to work

Thanks

are you talking about usb cameras or 1394 cameras?

what apps have you used to say it doesn't work?

Yes it is a USB camera , all of them are.

I have tried Camorama Web Cam viewer, Cheese, and WxCam but have had no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. As you can see by my posts I am still very green... Sorry.

Thanks.

I typed in lsusb and all it did was go to the next line. (the curser that is)

What should it have done?

ohjrson,
open Synaptic (Package Manager) and in search type usbutils.  If it is not installed mark for installation and apply, then try again in Konsole lsusb.  It will list devices being recognized on your machine.

I did that and it say it is installed. usbutil Should I not be at [username@localhost ~]? OR should I be somewhere else? I typed that into the konsole window and it does the same thing.

Thanks for your patience.  Try this command in Konsole:
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices
Paste results if you get any.  There is also the possibility your Bios needs configured for USB recognition.

No results I am thinking your right I have never configured it to recognize usb was not aware that I had to. I am running Linux on a separate hard drive while windows is on another. Do I still need to config the bios to see the usb or hasn't that already been accomplished by windows?   (Yes I am that new)

When I have the camera plugged into the same slot for the windows drive it works just fine. Same as the other camera's Should I have configured or set up something in the beginning to see USB stuff. I mean when I plug in a USB Drive it recognized it as well as a external hard drive that is usb.

Ok rebooted the whole thing, Don't have a clue what I did, but now when I type in "lsusb" I get this.

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Judging from the words up there under sunplus on the first bit of information I would have to guess that I have no driver installed for the clicksmart? Am I right or wrong?

OK, good, it recognizes that your camera is there (So Bios is OK).  gspca should be your driver.
Check that the gspca module has been loaded with:

Code: [Select]
lsmod | grep gspcaIf there's no output then su to root and type

Code: [Select]
modprobe gspca
Then plug in camera.

gspca_sunplus          11959  0
gspca_main             18207  1 gspca_sunplus
videodev               29617  1 gspca_main
usbcore               121266  10 snd_usb_audio,snd_usb_lib,gspca_sunplus,gspca_main,usb_storage,uhci_hcd,ohci_hcd,ehci_hcd,usbhi

FATAL: Module gspca not found.

This what I got when I typed in that info. Except I am not sure I was in the right place for the last one. su= switch up to root? Not sure how to accomplish that.

This means I don't have something right?

Many thanks

Right.  You must be root to load it.  So in Konsole type su and enter your password when prompted.  You'll then get a root prompt and can do modprobe gspca.   There won't be any output, then try camera plug in again.  Also try modprobe  gspca-zc3xx.  You can check again after modprobe with "lsmod | grep gspca" Should be something like:
Code: [Select]
gspca_zc3xx            37468  0
gspca_main             21076  1 gspca_zc3xx
videodev               56533  1 gspca_main
usbcore               117639  8 gspca_zc3xx,gspca_main,snd_usb_audio,snd_usbmidi_lib,btusb,uhci_hcd,ehci_hcd

Ok....this is what I got (BTW I changed the username to username just in case, I do have a username in there, no offense)

[root@localhost username]# modprobe gspca
FATAL: Module gspca not found.
[root@localhost username]# su
[root@localhost username]# modprobe gspca
FATAL: Module gspca not found.
[root@localhost username]# modprobe gspca-zc3xx
[root@localhost username]# lsmod | grep gspca
gspca_zc3xx            41883  0
gspca_sunplus          11959  0
gspca_main             18207  2 gspca_zc3xx,gspca_sunplus
videodev               29617  1 gspca_main
usbcore               121266  11 gspca_zc3xx,snd_usb_audio,snd_usb_lib,gspca_sunplus,gspca_main,usb_storage,uhci_hcd,ohci_hcd,ehci_hcd,usbhid
[root@localhost username]#

Unplugged camera and plugged it back in and did the same thing and got the same thing.
I think I know what I am looking at but I do not know what it means. I think by comparison since it is different slightly from what you said should be there I do not see the snd_usbmidi_lib,but I am thinking that it because you have blue tooth on your pc right? And I am pretty sure I do not have anything midi on mine.

So what now or whats going on? (again many thanks)

Well, I think we are getting somewhere.  I wish I was a better helper to you, my apologies.  The specific driver for that camera is listed as sunplus, but you would have to load the module gspca_spca5xx.  So the -zc3xx is probably wrong and perhaps we should also unload gspca generic.  To unload we use "modprobe -r"

So unplug camera and do:
Unload:
Code: [Select]
modprobe -r gspca
modprobe -r gspca-zc3xx
Load:
Code: [Select]
modprobe gspca_spca5xx
Then test.

"Well, I think we are getting somewhere.  I wish I was a better helper to you, my apologies." Are you kidding? ??? did I type something to offend you? No way man, your a HUGE help man, I can't thank you enough.

But.( and it is just a small one) I was looking over all the information so far that we have and I realized that when you type in "modprobe gspca" it showed us already that module was not found. So I don't think it is in there. When I did type in the modprobe gspca_spca5xx it said this: module gspca_spca5xx not found.

So I don't think it is there either. which means I would need to get it right? Where would I get it from? Synaptic? or somewhere else?
Your help has been most appreciated.
