I haven't done anything .

I did look at /usr/bin/synaptic  - and it is an empty document
I also looked at /usr/sbin/synaptic - and it is also an empty document

and that is all that I have done.

Another suggestion is to modify the launcher's command line to:

Code: [Select]
kdesu -c "dbus-launch synaptic"
It works here...

It is fixed now by doing a reinstall of my / partition
