Hi,

I did an update and apparently there is a new Firefox icon that is just 2kewt4words NOT.  I prefer not to look at this in my panel and stumbled upon a problem; in the old KDE you could right mouse click on a shortcut icon like this and the icon on first tab was configurable if you clicked you could change it.  Not so in new KDE.  There is a wrench on the first tab by mimetype but I have learned by recent bittersweet experience that is the icon for all "desktop configuration files".  Not that it actually changes it except in that tab.  *sigh*

I did some googling but the results were not what I wanted.  I don't want to change the icons within my browser.  I just want the old icon back in my panel.  Can you help point me in the right direction?

You should locate directory with KDE4 panel configuration (now I'm using lxde, so can't check out which file keeps panel settings in KDE4). In the file propably will be link to firefox.desktop file (/usr/share/applications). You may prepare your own file with your own icon, store him at /home/username/.local/share/applications/firefox.desktop and add this path to panel configuration. Icon must be at /usr/share/icons.

Right click the menu icon and select Edit Applications ......  and edit the Firefox menu entry as you wish.

I think that is what you are asking .......   ???

Additionally, make sure your Widgets are unlocked otherwise access maybe be denied to the panel for icon removal, but if you follow Just19's advise that should replace it automatically

A further way, is to r/click on the icon, choose Icon Settings and then select the small spanner icon and then the larger icon, and make your choice.

A bit confused how this occurred - can you show a screenshot of the icon?

??? ??? ??? My Firefox icon looks exactly like it always has in the past.

Mine didn't.  My KDE4 icon theme was an offshoot of oxygen.  And apparently, they updated it with this kewties anime (sp?) look.

To everyone thus far: I have tried every right click option in the panel on it imaginable and been unable to change it in the panel.  I have had similar hard time editing any icon in the panel.  But this is the only one I can't live with.

I had some weird success making shortcut to the app firefox (no %u) in home folder and then dragging it to the panel, I get the option to edit the icon then.  Not sure why the %u makes the icon uneditable? When I try to create a link in the panel that has %u I get you have to be root. Maybe I should try editing the icon for this app in root?

In the meantime, managed to totally destroy the panel and have been rebuilding - rather proud of self.  If I didn't have so much invested in my KDE4 config would have just reinstalled the pkg like the old days.  But am patiently rebuilding.

Right now, changed to a different Oxygen branch that doesn't have this ridiculous icon for firefox.  *sorry, too lazy to try and get to my web host to post a shot of the ridiculous icon, trust me, it is cartoony, anime style and just, not fitting with my theme :)

Lost me.  There is no link to firefox in /user/share/applications...okie, I could make one.  Then you say the icon must be at /usr/share/icons?

Yes, it is:
Code: [Select]
[marcin@localhost ~]$ locate firefox.desktop
/home/marcin/.local/share/applications/firefox.desktop
/usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop
I have had exactly personalized other icon of firefox. these steps I mentioned were good. There is a part of:
/home/marcin/.config/lxpanel/LXDE/panels/panel file:
Code: [Select]
Plugin {
    type = launchbar
    Config {
        Button {
            id=/usr/share/applications/pcmanfm.desktop
        }
        Button {
            id=/usr/share/applications/lxdecc.desktop
        }
        Button {
            id=/usr/share/applications/pclinuxos-drakconf.desktop
        }
        Button {
            id=/usr/share/applications/synaptic.desktop
        }
        Button {
            id=/usr/share/applications/lxterminal.desktop
        }
        Button {
            id=/home/marcin/.local/share/applications/firefox.desktop
        }
        Button {
            id=/usr/share/applications/radiotray.desktop
        }
        Button {
            id=/usr/share/applications/audacious.desktop
        }
    }
}

Right click on the 'Start Button' (the round PC icon), select 'Edit Applications,' expand the 'Internet' category, click on the Firefox entry. Then, on the 'General' tab, you will see an icon.  Just click on it and a window will pop up with an assortment of icons, including the old familiar Firefox icon (unless it has been lost for some reason) and select the one you want.  Click save and close it out.

May need a restart to actually show up.

Probably just not detailed enough for a noob.  I remember getting some similar, absolutely correct, advice that left me about as confused as when I asked.
