Forum login querie..
« on: July 05, 2011, 10:34:27 AM »
On the fairly rare occasions I manage to login to the forum ( doesn't seem to like opera, usually have to swap to Firefox) there is a greeting and my name and below it says 'You have 1 message 0 are new', and below it says 'Show new replies to your posts'. I am greeted with 'No messages'

The only way I can get to seeing my messages is by doing a search with my name. Last time I did this I discovered a whole bunch of new messages. Could someone without a fast diminishing set of grey cells suggest an easier way to see my messages?

Hi castauber - my forum theme (Silent Wave) shows my messages at the top of the page and I just have to click on them. I believe other themes do the same/similar

You are talking about two slightly different kinds of messages. 'You have 1 message 0 are new' refers to personal messages from other forum members. Click "1 message" and you'll see it -- or click "My Messages" close to the top of the page. These messages are your private ones and won't be seen by other forum members.

The 'No messages' reply when you click 'Show new replies to your posts' simply means that there are no recent posts in the threads were you've posted.

Edit: I always log in to the forum with Opera -- without any problem. Perhaps you should start a new thread about this and give us a bit more info.

Thanks  Menotu. I'll try that. and thanks for the explanation Bald Brick, but I won't start a new thread re opera because I have some much more pressing problems at the moment..

The 'new messages' are since you last logged in.

Likely scenario:
If you logged in with Opera but did nothing except leave, then immediately logged in with Firefox there would be no new replies to threads in which you have posted, since your last visit .....

'You have 1 message 0 are new'

'Show new replies to your posts'.
These are different things.
Messages - when you send somebody a personal message, PM.
Posts - you post in topic in the forums.
