To update or not to update???

installed KDE, Gnome and Enlightenment over and over again. After updating, none work properly. KDE loses sound in Firefox and icons in menus. Gnome no sound. Enlightenment crashes during the install of the update. I have been running PCLOS forever and really love the product. Any suggestions will glady be accepted. ATM Enlightenment is install but afraid to update.

Yes you should update .
Update the kernel to the 2.6.38.8 version
