My objective is to remaster a version of LXDE PCLOS for internal use. The background image needs to show a special logo.

I appreciate the developers looking into this background-crash-logout problem.

targfan,
That will be easy to do.

Add the logo to an existing wallpaper:
Open the wallpaper with gimp. Drag the logo from the file manager over to the wallpaper and drop it. If you do not want it centered, click the Move icon (looks like an equal armed cross) in the toolbox (left side pane) and then lower down click the radial button for "Move the active layer." Now you can drag and drop the logo into the position you want. When you have it in position, click Image (on the toolbar) > Merge visible layers. In the message that opens, click "Disguard invisible layers." Click ok. Next click File > Save As. Give your new wallpaper a name and an extension. .png or .jpg will do. Do not save as an xdg.

If you want only the logo to show, open gimp > click File > New > give the resolution you want > in the newly opened graphic, click Layer > Transparency > Color to alpha. The default background color is white; the default color to alpha is white, so just click OK. This will give you a transparent background on which to drag, drop, position and merge your logo. This must be saved as a .png.   jpg can not handle transparency.

I've found another work-around. Set your wallpaper to a graphic in your /home/you. Set the background color as you desire. Move the graphic from /home/you to /home/you/Pictures. Logout / login. Your wallpaper will be set to (none). The background color will be displayed.

Nice Neal. I was able to get the background to (none) by playing around with the file directory selections, but, could not figure how to "apply" it.  ;)

A logout / login, like a reboot, can be useful sometimes. :) Some cursor themes require it to be fully applied when you switch to them. It seemed like the way to go with this, too.

Neal/Rudge,

Any news on a fix for this?  It's beginning to annoy me as I'm starting a little project which will perhaps be my first mag submission and it requires resetting/changing the background repeatedly.

I know for a fact that Neal has been working on a fix. (looks promising to me) But I think Neal should be the one to respond because I know little.  ;)

I'm working on it. My testers have reported good results, except Ferdes Fides, who reports complete fail of the fix. :(

Hi,

That was 2 days ago.   Good news here.   Updated Mesa and xorg, have the 38.8pclos3 kernel
working and the background color is working again perfectly.   But the panel color has to be reset
several times when the desktop is switched between color or wallpaper.   It just loses it's setting
and needs a reset.    Can anyone confirm that ?

THX.

edit: I think the panel color changes are working OK too, just needed to be reset a couple of times
to get them into a workable position, and they are.

About the panel, set it to transparent, and it will always match up to your wallpaper or background color. If it appears to be incorrect in some way, the only way to correct it is to click the lxdecc icon and then when it opens, click the Refresh Panel icon. The command it uses is lxpanelctl restart & (/usr/bin/lxdecc - line #97).

Any time the panel background is changed, the display can appear to mess up. "Refresh Panel" always has fixed this here.

Yes I know.   Booted up LXDE 2010 on the Seagate portable fully upgraded with netapplet off and wlan0 connected
and per gkrellm the total RAM usage was 70 MB flat.   What efficiency !

Ready to start Seamonkey or VLC or LibreOffice or whatever.

Should mark this "solved" eventually.

Good News !
