Death of Sudoers ?
« on: June 28, 2011, 07:32:36 PM »
I know that PCLOS greatly discourages the use of sudoers, but I noticed it has been left out of /etc. Is this a permanent removal or just an insignificant item for the present. Just curious

Because of users posting instructions for the improper use of sudo it has been removed from the default installation.

Install sudo from Synaptic. I don't see visudo in there, though. I don't know what package provides it.

Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

visudo checks your syntax, etc.  If you are very careful, and know what the file has to look like, you can edit the sudoers file with any editor.  I'm
not sure what happens if you mess it up.  I would, of course, prefer visudo.  --doug

I had always thought Linux was about choice, because of the abuse or stupidity of some, the "choice" has been taken away for all?
Well at least there are other "choices" people can make.

It hasn't been taken away for anyone. It just isn't the default. sudo has its legitimate uses, and if you need it you can install it. Using it the buntu way is insane, but even that is possible. That too is your choice. You just have to choose the insanity yourself.

Been taken away for all?  Not at all. If you want it install it with the package manager.

Please tell me what choice has been taken away? Just because it is not installed by default, DOES NOT mean you DO NOT have a choice to install and use it if you want.

larry1160 perhaps you should know what you are talking about before talking out your back side. Your statement doesn't make you look to smart, does it?  I really hope that you are wearing your flame retardant shorts as you are most likely going to need them.

I guess some people just like typing sudo on every line to do anything as root.  ;)

IIRC ........  the sudo package has been moved to the 'special' section of the repository, so some effort is needed to find and install it.
It does not therefore show, by default, as available in Synaptic.
