LXDE-mini 20011.06: Best new version of any linux distro I have tried in 2011..... period. And I have tried most of Distrowatch's top 20 or so that have new releases in 2011, and multiple versions of those (different DE's, mini's etc.). Light, simple, fast, meat and potatoes OS with plenty of pepper. A delicious breath of sanity in a year rife with tablet and silly-phone inspired idiocy. This is the work of a craftsman with honest scars and callouses well-earned. f***in' a. I bow in yer general di-rection Neal, beers and bacon a-plenty well and truly deserved ;) :) :)

Almost as good as my exquisite Zen re-masters in fact ;D

Just downloaded and set up 2011.06 KDE to my liking.  I have to agree 100% that this blows them all out of the water.  I watch a lot of streaming movies/videos online, and so far only PCLinuxOS runs them fullscreen flawlessly with no stuttering/glitches.  Rock steady and the new default theme is nice too.

Edit:  Now I need to download and try the 2011.06 LXDE edition.  I've been using LXDE elsewhere and loving it, so I have a feeling PCLinuxOS LXDE is going to be simply awesome.

.........LXDE full.....A-OK!  - on an OLD tester unit......

AMD DURON 1800
nVidia Quadro2 pro   absolutely no video problems...(I was a bit apprehensive...)
Self detected = BenQ G2222hdh monitor and resolution...
Seagate 40g ide hd
350 Watt P/S
768 mb of ram.
SAMSUNG usb printer ml1630....

Played You tubes, Pandora, etc w/sound: VIA82xx_audio.....with FIREFOX 5 !

NEW Internet connection icon and theme -nice!

Very well done.  8)   ......on to more testing with about 30 more "old" machines, and a handful of laptops...

Thanks for the clarification ......  I was not aware of the two levels of compression of xz or how they were achieved.

got LXDE mini on all my stuff ..works out the box on all ..even my old Advent lappy with only 256mb ram  ;D ;D.. after finally cleaning it out it does not over heat .. ;D ;D ::)
