Try 2.6.38.8-2pclos kernel when you see it on synaptic, maybe it will help you.

additional wifi packages today, that did'nt seem to be loaded on the LXDE cd....maybe thats all it is -
I will definitely test that problem lappy again,soon, and post the results.
