Boot of new kernel crashes to cmd line on ACER 5732Z
« on: June 25, 2011, 06:08:27 PM »
This is a re-run of a previously unsolved problem....

I have an ACER Aspire 5732Z laptop, Dual core Intel Pentium T4400, 4GB memory, MESI DRI mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset Video and when I installed both of the following kernels I get a blank screen part way into the boot (before the new modules for the new kernel would compile):

kernel-2.6.38.7-pclos1.bfs
kernel-2.6.38.8-pclos1.bfs

I then tried the "NO ACPI" option and it throws up a LOT of stuff [but the screen stays turned on!] error messages (including something about a no squid) and then aborts to the command line login.  Previous versions lost the network connections - don't know if they work in the last two versions (never got that far).

I've been running kernel 2.6.33.7-pclos6.bfs and I've tried every kernel update after that which has ended up with a "shut off LCD" screen.  Its only with the last 2 kernel updates that it crashes to the command line.
