Hello,
I had an issue with resolutions stuck at 1024x768.I eventually realised you can choose a different X server in PCC- Configure video card below the vendor card choices
I changed from nouveau to nv and found the higher resolutions would work.I suspect there is an issue with the nouveau X server.I hadn't noticed the choice for different X servers was available at this location.

If there's a harder way to do something I'll probably find it.

Those are not different X servers, they are different drivers for the same X server.

If you first choose your actual monitor, then pick the nouveau driver, you should be able to choose any resolution the monitor will accept.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Hello.
I did try choosing my monitor first but whilst using the nouveau driver. It would only go up to the 1024x768 resolution.I had been unable to start the Xserver as my resolution was already set higher than that at the monitors native resolution which was 1280x1024.I did have settings available up to 1600x1200 prior to the Xorg updates. The maximum available now is 1280x1024.It would appear the updates have reduced the the capabilities available.
