I have installed PCLinuxOS kde version, updated using Synaptic.  Kernel 2.6.33.7

Hardware - Foxconn 760GXK8MC m/board.  AMD Athlon64 3400 cpu.  2GB ram.  Geforce 5200 agp gfx card.  Samsung Syncmaster 913n monitor.

If I try and open file manager I get logged out.  When running Kde display manager it is in an endless loop, flashing up the login screen and then logging out and the only escape is CTRL-ALT-Del.
I have changed to X display manager and this just goes back to the log in screen, where I can log in and continue working.

What is happening and how do I resolve it?

Thanks

Mmmm - no response.  Either this is something simple that I should have sorted by now or it has got everyone stumped?

On a fresh, updated install other applications work OK but when I try and open anything relating to file manger I get logged out and end up back at a log in screen.

Where should I be looking, in terms of log files, to find out what is happening?

Thanks.

maybe easiest to install the new 2011.06, takes only 5 minutes. Then you have all updates included and things should run smoothly.

Being as the 2011.6 release has been finalized and is ready for download, I'd suggest you install that.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Have you tried creating a new user account to see if it happens there as well?

Try to run the file manager this way for diagnostics:
