Just noticed when I installed ugh GDM it used the default theme that came with the package. Maybe the other themes are screwed with updated xorg stuff. Gawd, I hate dealing with Gnome stuff.

I don't think so. It works ok here, except for the new theme Timeth provided to me. All other themes do work. The only thing I noticed since the beginning is that to make another chosen config "hold", I must configure the chosen theme twice...

Let's say : configure, login. Logout, configure again. (The first time I changed a theme, not the following times). But I am resistant : the @รงรง#!!! GDM theme config is not going to win ! :D

... LXDM might be interesting to try when it will be advanced enough to let use use it in PCLinuxOS.

Use gdmsetup as root and on the security tab setup autologin for missus.

I am using gnome / gdm on one of my devices including testing section. I am fully upgraded including 38.8 bfs kernel. I am using autologin and never realized that gdm was broken.

Hope this could be used as a temporary solution.

Regards.

Andy

Hmm AndrzejL, autologin doesn't work here as well. Tried that.

Hi,

How do you login ? With "startx" ?

Have you tried in user console "dbus-launch gdmsetup" and reconfigure from there ? (Twice if needed)

New clue ... GDM is not running (!) ... That what I found out only while trying to switch user.

A - Why not running?

B- How do we get it running like a antilope?

Running dbus-launch gdmsetup leads to the same "GDM is not running" error...

Using GDM here and it is working. Installed it yesterday and switched to it from PCC. Gonna install it on my freshly baked 2011.6 installation.

Do you have a /etc/sysconfig/system file with the following contents?

CLASS=beginner
SECURITY=3
LIBSAFE=no
META_CLASS=desktop

Edit: Installed gdm on my new kde installation and is ok. What should I do now to break it?

Finally created that file " /etc/sysconfig/system" and POOF it works.

Now I can answer your question: "What should I do now to break it?"
Just remove /etc/sysconfig/system and you're there!   :D :D :D

Thanks to all for helping out.
Now I can ask Mrs again for some coffee (with cookies this time!). ;D

Just wonder .. why was this file left out during updates?  ??? Alas!

Could she send some to the forum helpers as well ? :D

Why this file was left out ? This file belongs to pclinuxos-release-2011-2pclos2011. Do you have this package ? Which mirror does the update come from ?

It wasn't left out but I made damn sure it was created if it did not exist on your system in a post install script.

Melodie, I use a mirror in Japan (Located in the Philippines here). Seldom a problem. Mirror is jaist something.
I also can tell you about the memory: No problems there.
It really comes down to that single lacking file /etc/sysconfig/system is my best guess.
How it happened?

Hahahahaha ... never mind, coffee, cookies, peace, what else do I need aside of bacon in the morning!  ;D
