exploder, did you do the test? If you are using KDE, on Firefox File > Open File > (copy and paste this on Location) /usr/share/sounds/KDE-Sys-Log-In-Long.ogg and click Open. If you hear sound then Firefox is able to play OGGs and that's the audio format you wish to listen to.

So why isn't it playing in Firefox when you can play local OGGs (if the test is successful)? Maybe Firefox is timing out because (1) the large file it needs to buffer, or (2) buffer-size limit reached, or (3) buffer overflow ... it could be one of other reasons.

Maybe you are not missing anything. Maybe it is the podcast service. Exhaust all avenues of the test and you can narrow down where the problem lies.

I tried everything I could think of... I could copy a link to a podcast into VLC and it would play. I decided to start over and try using the a64 kernel to fix the sound skipping problem. If I can get the sound to stay working I can just stick with alsa. I had tried so many things to get ogg files to play it was just a big mess.

I meant local files. One thing at a time. Can your Firefox play OGG? How about MP3? Try ones from your hard disk. If it can then that's one thing we know.

Skipping sound and also video are caused by streams not coming in as fast as they should therefore the buffers are empty and have nothing else so sound or video seemed to stall.

I re-installed and used the a64 kernel, so far no skipping sound and podcasts are playing fine. I never did figure out why ogg files would not play using pulse audio and from the google searches I did, neither did a lot of other people. I could play any multimedia file with pulse audio in Firefox except for ogg files, I could play them in VLC manually though. I any case, it was easier to fix the sound skipping than fix the problems with pulse audio. The sound skipping was random and it would do it as soon as the desktop would load. The a64 kernel seems to have put a stop to the sound issue.
