My Toshiba A205 laptop has to be set to boot from USB every time I boot up. I think that it looks for a USB drive and then resets the boot order if it is not there. Then the next time I try to boot from USB I have to go through the bios again.

this is not a old unit, it should be capable to boot form a external usb optical drive

maybe a bios update?  toshiba still has a page for this a105 with drivers to download
I updated the BIOS over a period of several years. Basically every time I got obsessed with this bug I went and checked for new BIOS updates.
