Brother Large Format Printer
« on: June 22, 2011, 09:31:26 AM »
We have this Brother printer running in the office.

And, DUH, I suddenly realized that this printer meets ALL my needs in the studio. it scans 11 x 17 just like my current HP Printer and also prints large format (11 x 17) sheets.  It's also wireless.  So, if need be, I can print from my laptop of notebook.

I can remove the current HP scanner and put the Brother in it's place.  I can also get rid of my small HP Deskjet 3320.

This is a terrifc solution!  It'll really help me in the studio.

The big question is, will PCLinuxOS be able to access all it's features?

The repository has package task-printing-misc which covers miscellaneous printers

Quote
Meta package for printer drivers for miscellaneous printers
This meta package will install every printer driver available for printers from
miscellaneous manufacturers.

This package should cover printers from:
Alps, Anitech, Apollo, Apple, Avery, Brother, Citizen, Citoh, Compaq, Dec,
Dell, Dymo, Fujitsu, IBM, Imagen, Infotec, Kodak, Kyocera, Minolta, Mitsubishi,
Nec, Oce, Olivetti, Panasonic, Pcpi, Pentax, QMS, Ricoh, Samsung, Star,
Tektronix and Xerox.

And a package driver for the Brother P-touch.

Will I be required to install a Linux driver from Brother and could doing so potentially break my system?

Easiest way to check might be to just take your laptop to work, try to add a printer and have it scan for the printer and see what happens.

I would take the live CD for the computer where you want to move the printer and have
the computer that has the printer run off the live CD. Have the live CD find and setup up
the printer and do the operation you want the other computer to do. If all works well than
you can do your printer switching.

Yep, been trying that.  scanning for the network printers.  Got one other printer to print (we have two..one Laser and the one I mentoned), but nothing else. The large format stilll not coming up.

Whoops!  well, look what I found. All the printers.:)  Including large format.  gonna test now.:)
