<Fixed>Move Taskbar Icons?
« on: June 15, 2011, 03:55:26 PM »
New install of KDE testing. The digital clock was taking up over half of the task bar though the display size was normal forcing icons on top of each other. I deleted the clock and now the icons are scattered. I have tried moving them by left clicking and dragging but that doesn't work. I have locked and unlocked widgets several times. How do I move them? In one answer I found in search it said to right click and unlock but I don't seem to have that option.

Do you have the Smooth Tasks widget in your panel? That is normally placed in the centre of the panel and the task manager and the virtual desktop/pager settings to the left of that.

THe System Tray settings widget (which holds the network icon and klipper etc) should be on the right of Smooth Tasks.

But you are correct is saying that the widgets should be unlocked and the icons should then be "dragable" by left mouse button

That will only happen if your widgets are actually locked.

You can unlock/lock widgets from the desktop cashew as well as the one on the panel for locking.

Note - sometimes an icon has to be moved a little further than where it's being placed and it often then "falls back" to the correct place.

You have to click the panel cashew to make the icons "dragable".

Seen something like this happen before; in that particular case it was like one panel was sitting on top of another.   Had to delete the messed up panel then add a new default panel and populate.

I don't have faith in my ability to repopulate. Already removed the digital clock and can't figure out how to get it back. Will it just repopulate when I reboot?

Q. "Will it just repopulate when I reboot"

A. No it won't.

Have faith, you can do it.  Once you create a new panel (probably on the bottom of the screen), left click on the "cashew" at the far right and then click on "Add Widgets".  Once the widgets selection shows up you will need scroll through and add the basic elements to make the panel useful.  Such as:  Application Launcher; System tray; Digital clock; Lock/logout; and smooth tasks.  Just double click on each widget and it will be added to the panel.  Some things are already there with the default panel, just add what you need.  Once added, you can move them from left to right by left clicking and dragging to where you want, slowly and carefully.  Once you understand what the panel is, and what it can do, you may have a love/hate relationship with it.

Ray2047,
I had a similar problem with taskbar icons. I played with it for a long time 'til I found that it was simple, but the trick was to get the thing selected.
IIRC, i had to hover over the misplaced item so that a window appeared over it, a X appearred on it, then I dragged the X into place. Or something like that.
Sorry I can't remember exactly how I resolved it, it took some fiddlin' but it was better than recreating the whole taskbar.
