Minimum java

Just a quick query - what is the minimum pkg I can use to execute java apps?  I have installed java-1.6.0-sun into OB and it has expanded out to near on 100mb.  Bit much to run an app. less than 10mb.  Are there any alternatives?

Hi, I don't know any. What application do you want to use that requires Java ?

The app. is "Where is M13", an astronomical app. that runs in java - minimum jre 1.4 it turns out.  So there may be no option but a full install of java.  I have gone with 1.5.0 to minimize the footprint. That will be useful for other java apps but it does blow a bit of a hole in the budget on a live cd!

How much space is used at the moment ? Do you know you can go at least up to 2500 MB of space disk used, to get a max of 700 MB and the new default compression with xz used by the latests mylivecd will take longer to compress but compress more than before ? (Depending on the files which need to be compressed of course, as some are already compressed, some can't be much.... )

I guess you will have to give it a try.
