Hello,

System:- Old Dell motherboard (celeron 341 32/64  bit) 2GB ram, IDE DVD, 2-500GB sata hard disks in a mirrored raid array via a PCI 4 port serial ATA host controller card.

pclinuxos full monty kde
I've tried this distro on a friends machine, and it looks very nice, compared to some others.

Bios is set to boot the system from the PCI card, works fine for Windows XP and some other linux distros.
I'm trying to install by booting from a DVD to existing linux partitions. root, home & swap.
Boots to a black screen and a boot prompt that says can't find image and hangs at a boot prompt.
Tried at the boot prompt, "vmlinuz raid = autodetect", lot of screen text then just hangs at nothing.

These drivers with PCI card:-
Fedora C2 32bit, Fedora C2 64bit, Fedora C3 32bit, Fedora C3 64bit, Fedora C4 32bit, Fedora C4 64bit,
Linux 64bit,    RedHat,    SuSE
RedHat EL30 32bit, RedHat EL30 64Bit, RedHat Ent40 32bit, RedHat Ent40 64bit, RedHat Ent41 32bit, RedHat Ent41 32bit,
SuSE Ent90 R551 32bit. SuSE Ent90 R551 64bit, SuSE Pro92 32bit, SuSE Pro93 32bit, SuSE Pro93 32bit
I wouldn't know which to use or when and how to install one.

Can any body help a newbee?

It seems that my raid array is not seen, can't find any disks.

Regards

This is going to sound silly, but when i wanted to try a different version of Linux on a older desktop computer i had i had the same issue then i found out why through the laptop. If you boot the computer and check the bios for the hard drive, it MAY give the option to have the hard drive in ATA mode or ACHI. If it does, try using the opposite mode. I have windows xp sp3 right now which can be used in either mode, but for the full monty dvd i MUST be in achi mode otherwise i get the same issues you do. I hope this helps somewhat?

Hello IceStorm,

My bios doesn't give me a choice between ATA or ACHI.

Its getting a little better, Grub installs OK.

At the moment the install completes right up to "remove DVD and press return".
Just hangs at nothing.
Have to reboot the PC.
Select pclinux at the grub prompt, goes to a splash screen and then goes to a text
screen with some errors.
Grub boots to windows xp without a problem.

The problem is probably RAID. Pclos is intended for ordinary desktop/laptop computers and the last I read, Texstar said it doesn't support RAID.

Don't know whether that will change as more laptops seem to be coming with it now.

Hello,

I'm getting some ware at last.

I deleted the root partition (left unallocated space).
I put in a sata CD/DVD drive instead of IDE.
I did a fresh download and made a new disk (checksum OK).
I installed 'Full Monty' and rebuilt the root partition during the installation.
So far so good.

I get the following error (kde crash handler) every time I boot into Full Monty and
just after the normal desktops shows.
If I close the error report, every thing seems to work normally.

Perhaps someone understands what it means and can explain it to me,
and offer a solution.

Regards
