[SOLVED] Middle Mouse Button Not Working since update
« on: June 10, 2011, 10:53:58 AM »
Since I updated about a week ago, I noticed that the middle mouse button is not working as before on 2 things.

1. In Firefox I no longer can use the mmb to click on a site and have it auto go to a new tab.

2. There is a feature .... I don't know if it has a name...  I use it in KWrite. You can highlight something then mmb somewhere else and the highlighted selection will appear.  It's like copy and paste but with less work.

I haven't changed any settings etc since updating.  I just noticed that they no longer work.

Try removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-mouse.conf. This was recently added to fix some bugs.

- 11-mouse.conf

  * support buttons 6+7 (sideways tilted scroll wheel) on the
    "Logitech Easy Optical Mouse RX250"

  * enabled "Emulate3Buttons" on two button mice touchpads detected
    as "ImPS/2 Generic Wheel Mouse"

  * enabled "Emulate3Buttons" on generic trackpoints

Hopefully this works.

I tried a 'quick click' and got the FF to auto to new tab.  I am going to have to think about the steps from Texstar.  Good thing I am not in a hurry.  :P

Is this what I am supposed to delete?  Can I put it in trash first?

meme:  11-mouse.conf      you can savely remove it or rename the file (as su).

I have renamed, rebooted and tried the middle mouse button in FF again.  I don't see anything different happening.  I still am having to quick click to make a site appear in a new tab.  But that is OK.  I can do that.  :)

But there has been no change in the other middle click problem I mentioned.  I am still not able to highlight a selection or words in KWrite and then middle click in another area and have the highlighted selection pasted.  Maybe it has something to do with the clipboard Klipper?  I really like this feature and hope it is still available.

Hi ms_meme,

if you have renamed the file 11-mouse.conf, but still is in the same folder, try to remove the file.

The file is now in the trash....but I don't see it there.   Or is it in Root's trash?   Do I have to reboot or relog in to see if there is any difference?

re login will be enough.

If I could just learn to toss things, I would save myself a lot of woe.  :( :( ;D
But I did need the experience of doing things as SU.

Off to find something else that doesn't work right.  ;)

ms_meme and everyone else: thanks much. I had the same problem and I was quite stumped.

I searched the forum for "mouse middle" and this thread popped right up.   :)

Hi Andy Axnot.  I am glad you got the middle mouse problem solved.  It may surprise everyone...but I too searched before asking about it.  ;D
Since then I updated and had to delete the very same file again.
Then yesterday I did another update and found the middle mouse button would not work again.   :(

You would think I could do it with ease and comfort....but no.  I still get sweaty palms and palpitations when rooty things appear. One would think that whoever is running this show would just delete that file in the first place.   ;)
It is probably just a test to keep us on our toes.   :P

It is easier for someone to remove a file if it affects them and they don't need it than for someone to have to create the file they need because their mouse/trackball doesn't work.

That does make sense.  :)  Have removed the offending file.

ms_meme, thanks again, this time for the heads-up. Now I won't be surprised if I encounter the middle click problem after my next update.

Sometimes it's just nice to know in advance.   ;D
