Hi Melodie,

Your 06/13/11 ISO is up and running on my Dell Inspiron 8600.  So far, everything I tested is running fine.  At present, I'm listening to some classic rock with Radio Tray.  You've done a really nice job here!! ;D

Jeff

Hi Jeff, that's GREAT !

Could you give a few details about the tests you did so far ? Webcam ? Wifi ? 3D games ? And about the apps installed, particularly when you import pictures from your cameras ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I've got the 6.13 iso and will do a few tests today. I don't have the old machine running anymore  :-[

Mélodie,

Unfortunately, this old machine won't handle a webcam or most 3D games.  However, my Nikon camera works fine.  As soon as I plugged it into a usb port, Shotwell opened up and prompted me to download the photos and that worked.  As for wifi, the Intel 2200bg built into this works fine.  By the way, I did test the livecd on my Alienware laptop and the built-in webcam appears to work.  I could not connect via wifi to the web, due to the dkms broadcom driver on the livecd. As for the other built-in programs I've tested so far, here's a list just to name a few:

VLC media player, Radio Tray, DeaDBeef, GMixer, LibreOffice Writer, LibreOffice Calc, Synaptic Package Manager, Update Package Sources List, Firefox with Flash, Sylpheed (I prefer Thunderbird), GIMP, MTPaint, Shotwell, Fotoxx Image Editor, Bleachbit Root, PCManFM as root, Geany, GnomeBaker CD/DVD Writer (CD write only), Htop, NetApplet, Sakura, NVIDIA Display Settings (It worked on this old 64MB nVidia card), Tint Wizard, PCC, Network Center, etc.

Is there anything more specific that you want me to look at?

Jeff

Hi Galen,
What about starting with a pendrive ? Maybe your machine does not boot with pendrives ?

Hi,

As some of you know, the shutdown button on the lxpanel in Openbox and Bonsai, is activated with a python script named "shutdown-dialog.py". This script has very lately been left by his author who encouraged the maintainer to fork it (he lacked time to pursue).

In the meanwhile, Archie has very kindly accepted to package shutdown-dialog.py. It's waiting in Texstar's reserve to be uploaded. Therefore, Openbox versions will no more need to have stuff installed by hand in the system... or almost. (There is still xcompmgr-dana, which provides more effects than the xcompmgr we have... )

Now on the way, I have seen that "doorknob60", the maintainer of shutdown-dialog.py, (renamed pygtk-shutdown) has also packaged other apps we don't have: such as DamnVid, which I tried, and pointed to for Archie to take a look at it.

Archie has made a package that he wants us to test. I tested, it looks good to me, but I don't know enough about video to see if it works all as it should... Who wants to try it ? Archie's thread is here : http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,92791.0.html

I might very well include it in the final release, if it seems a good idea ?

Thanks !

having a small issue. if I right click on the desktop to bring up the menu, choose preferences>desktop prefs... the window pops up below any other windows.
Good things come in small packages. From small minds, not so much.

Thanks.

also, (I forgot) if I right click on the panel to change it's appearance the dialog window that pops up is also below any other windows. seems to be only pref windows.

edit: if I choose "run" from the menu the run command window also opens under any other window. is easy enough to check. just have say pcmanfm open on the desktop somewhere near the middle of the screen. then try any of the ones I mentioned.

Yes, easy to check, but for now I am on a Bonsai I had installed and personalized for myself, and not on the last version I provided to test. I am testing other things for now, actually on the testing mailing list. In my actual version, also started from a Bonsai, I don't get theses results.

I'll look for what you say a little later. :)

no problem. I didn't get it in Bonsai either. while you are checking, I changing the title text in obconf doesn't work, although it does in the menu.

edit: for some reason choosing a certain style of font was the problem. seems to be working now.

Hi,

This way will fix it : open the file ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml with geany, then at line 658 659 and 660 you will find theses three lines:
Code: [Select]
   <application name="lxpanel">
      <layer>below</layer>
    </application>

Just delete them, save your file and reload openbox (from the right-click menu "Openbox > Reload Openbox") (same in /etc/skel/.config/openbox/rc.xml and in the same file in /root)

Now it should be ok.

I had added this after I saw it was good for tint2, but in fact for Lxpanel it is not needed (and this brings the annoyance you found).

I'll correct if for the next version. Thank you very much !

you're most welcome Melodie. Are you keeping the Bonsai name for the next release? I am rather proud of coming up with the name  :D ;D

Oh you've shortened your nick ! Yes, I will keep the name of course ! This is a good code name, no reason to pick another one. :)
