Mélodie,

Up an running & fully updated on an Dell Inspiron 8600.  It's now my oldest test machine with a Pentium M 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of ram and a nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 64M video card.  Just a couple of things to note:

1)  Grub still shows "Boot PCLinuxOS 2010".
2)  Had to install and run alsaconf, in order to get sound working.
3)  Have to manually start wifi connection on each boot.  It's an Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG.

All else is working so far.  I report back tomorrow on anything else I find.

Jeff

Edit:  I turned off speedboot and wifi now connects on each boot.

Hi Jeff !
So speedboot bothers again. I'll turn it off too and I added alsaconf as well. If you see anything else that can be improved...

Yes, the same old speedboot problem.  By the way, I did see something else.  You might want to force dkms-broadcom-wl back to version 5.60.48.36-1pclos2010.  The new version would not work on my newer Dell and Alienware laptops.  All else is looking good.  The final release will be the main install on my older Dell test machines.

By the way, I did see something else.  You might want to force dkms-broadcom-wl back to version 5.6.48.36-1pclos2010.  The new version would not work on my newer Dell and Alienware laptops.

Hi Jeff,

I don't know if this is possible (depending on "what repos does have it ?"). Else, a testing pre-version is also meant to bring this kind of annoyance up, for all to benefit of the tests. Would you mind going to open a thread about it at the network section, or at the software section ? (the one close to broken packages) ?

Thank you !!
If you find anything else, please come back. :)
I'll try to remaster a new version withing a few days, as several packages have had several new versions since a pair of days...

Hi Mélodie,

Actually, Texstar is aware of the problem with the newer dkms-broadcom-wl version.  At this time, I think it's been removed from testing.  At least, I don't see it in there anymore.  The older version, 5.60.48.36-1pclos2010, is back in it's place in the repos.  This happened a few weeks ago.

I'll let you know if I find anything else.  As usual, I look forward to your next remaster.

Jeff

Hi melodie, installed in vb with no concerns. updated system and installed radiotray. No sound until I updated some of the gstreamer plugins. Now works fine. No problems with office. Nice collection of apps with the iso. Will continue to test and see if I can get a handle on openbox. Ken

Hi Kensum,

For radiotray I see theses depends are added:
Quote
gstreamer0.10-faad (version 0.10.22-1pclos2011) sera installé
gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs (version 0.10.34-1pclos2011) sera installé
python-notify (version 0.1.1-5pclos2011) sera installé

but what gstreamer packages did you need to add ? Please look in Synaptic menu File > History > Click on "June" and look at the last log which is on top. Please copy/paste here ?

Would it be interesting to add radiotray to the distro if there is space left ? I didn't know this app... and it seems not too large (let's see what gstreamer additional packages are needed and how much more it would bring in !)

Thank you for the feedback !

Hi Mélodie,

I've since discovered another problem with my test machine.  While I've seen that other testers are able to use GNOME ALSA Mixer, I get the following error every time I open it:

"An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for GNOME ALSA Mixer. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly."

It has something to do with a bad key or folder named, "/apps/gnome-alsamixer/slider_display_names/SigmaTel_STAC9700,83,84-Master".  I've checked and I don't have that folder.  Also after a reinstall of GNOME ALSA Mixer, the problem still exists.

Any thoughts or ideas on how to fix this problem?  By the way, I just installed alsamixergui and it works fine.

Jeff

Melodie; here is what I added for the gstreamer plugins. I ran it from terminal to see if it would give me the exact plugin needed but no luck. listed several that I could not find separately.
Installed the following packages:
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good (0.10.29-1pclos2011)
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly (0.10.17-1pclos2011)
libshout3 (2.2.2-3pclos2009)

with these all worked fine. Radiotray would be a nice addition to the iso if there is room. ken

Hi Jeff, try to remove /home/jeff/.gconf/apps/gnome-alsamixer, then logout/login and see if that helps. No good news, I just saw gnome-alsamixer don't have a website anymore : " URL         : http://www.paw.co.za/projects/gnome-alsamixer/ " has disappeared.

I don't like the fltk look too much. Maybe another choice is still possible ?

Kensum : thanks. I'll look if there is enough space and try to remaster with theses next time.

Good night/evening/... to all.
Mélodie

PS: we also have gmixer available. Not too heavy, just needs a few more strings translated to French. :p

Good night Mélodie.  I just tried qasmixer and it seems to work well.

Hi Melodie:

Sorry I am late to the party  ;D  Currently downloading it now.

Hi Jeff,

Could you stil try to remove ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-alsamixer and give it a try again ? I would like to try to find out what happened to this program, by searching the web if it has been moved anywhere, or wait to see if the project will restart somewhere else... gmixser is ok but not been updated since 2009 and no translation project on it. But I found the place where the mo and po file stands and would like to write a mail to it's dev to ask information about how to get a translation project on it... (for French it is partly translated for now) and in the meanwhile I would like to try to keep gnome-alsamixer a bit longer...

(I don't meet with any problem with it, on my side... )
Thank you. :)

Hi ka9yhd, welcome to the openbox testing party !!

You will have quite a few updates ! :D

Jeff, qasmixer is not translated at all, to French... it might be the same for other languages. :(
