[SOLVED] Maximized windows
« on: June 05, 2011, 02:51:04 PM »
Why do all my windows (in KDE 4.6) start maximized? It was not like that in the past, I think its cause of a system upgrade( have no idea which), how can i fix it?

all?

no, i don't have that, nor wine windows, kde windows, gtk windows, java windows

no, i can't replicate

have you verified if you leave them maximized and the windows are set to remember the size?

in the windows in question, click on the icon, it will call the window menu, there open advanced/special window settings

if there is not the option you need(first tab) is in the configure window behavior

remember that if you are using compiz, this can affect how windows behaves and you need the compiz manager to edit that

I think they remember the last state they were in when closed. Try clicking the Restore button (middle one on my theme) then close. When you reopen it should be the same as when you closed it.

Verified. That's how mine works. Apps open in the state they were in when closed.

That's how it normally is, I think u can also press ctrl then select file . CLOSE then that windows size will be remembered, but my case is different.
For example if selecting a wwifi network the small dialog that should appear saying "Connecting...", even that starts maximized.
Or aMSN which i like not to be maximized, it is always on startup.

A good idea in such situations is always to create a new user and check if your issue is the same in a clean account.

If it's the same there, you can claim it's system wide, if not you'll have to search for the solution in your personal settings.

That info also helps others to help you.

Did you change any window settings or did you let anyone work / play with the computer logged in to your account?
All that is is good. PCLinuxOS is.

Try right clicking in the windows top border and choose

Advanced > Special Window Settings > Geometry Tab

or

Advanced > Special Application Settings > Geometry Tab

PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

That did not help me much, is there a way to reset the settings?
Like in GNOME/XFCE you delete the .gconf, ... folders ...what do i have to delete in KDE?

I suspect $HOME/.kde/share/config/kwinrc | kwinrulesrc

Or both.. because they belong to the kde window manager
Office required Windows XP or better, so I installed PCLinuxOS :D
