Chromium default browser
« on: June 02, 2011, 09:42:10 PM »
Ok, I'm running KDE, and everything is updated.  I keep trying to set Chromium as my default browser, and every time I open it it asks me if I want to make it the default browser.  I have set it in the Preferences inside of Chromium, and I have set it in the KDE Configure Your Desktop under default apps.  I found these two threads that had similar issues, but no real positive on how to fix it:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,80274.0.html
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,88052.0.html
The second one describes my problem to a 'T' and I was going to just tag on that thread, but the forums recommend I start a new thread because that one was old?  Well, hopefully it is ok that I started a new thread.  Any further thoughts on this would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Shane

I don't really know the answer, but here's a thought. Do you also have Firefox or another browser installed that was previously tagged as the default browser? If so, maybe unmarking the old one will help.

If you are using the KDE desktop it is set in the configure your desktop -> Workspace Appearance -> Default Applications.

I already set it in the KDE configure your desktop -> Workspace Appearance -> Default Applications  and it still comes up as though it isn't default.  I don't really know that it isn't other than it says every time that I open it that it wants to be set as default.  Thunderbird links don't open at all, but that is for another thread and a minor issue (just haven't had time to tackle that yet).

Ok, I just tested it, I put a link down in a note, and the clicked it and it opens in Chromium, the odd thing is that Chromium thinks it isn't the default app.   Very odd?  When I go to preferences in Chromium it says it isn't set as default.  Is this a Chromium bug?

I didn't really understand that.  I'm not sure how to unmark the other as default.  Can you explain?  Much appreciated!

The chromium-browser requires updated xdg-settings and xdg-mime scripts to be able to set the default browser.

Texstar - I can upload the updated files if you need them.
