Thanks Goustifruit  ;)   This looks good. I'm just about to begin building a website for my brother and I was thinking of going with Joomla but I may have to change my mind about that. This processwire looks really nice. One more for Archie to try. Busy guy.  :)

Yeap, it does look nice and I can picture already on the page clickable members >> work that the members did. The demo shows some potentials so I'm downloading the file and install it on my localhost. Tell you all what I think later.

Kori, don't fall asleep ... is the offer to host still good?

I discovered ProcessWire a few months ago when I was then playing with ModX (another CMS/CMF): Joomla is very messy and limited when you want to do things out of what it was thought for, Drupal is *way* too complicated and heavy (and I tried to learn it for a couple years !)... I started to like ModX but heard about PW (ProcessWire) and could build some site I was working on with ModX in just a couple days, it's very easy to use and to figure out how things work, and it's very powerful thanks to its jQuery like API. Really a pleasure to work with (and the author is very nice, and the forum are very welcoming) !

Well that didn't go too well... I tested 3 CMS since yesterday (e107, ProcessWire and Mambo). I should have been clear with some of the other requirements/criteria. I guess when I meant simple, I also meant lightweight as in installation size but should not be limited in functions. By lightweight, I also meant modular. Features that are not needed should not only be turned off but also removed. If there's a need for an extra feature, we should be able to install them.

Mambo and ProcessWire were quite similar and it reminds me of Joomla. It was easier for me to get around and tweak Mambo because I've used Joomla quite a bit but I had a heck of a time with ProcessWire. I couldn't find the admin link. There were two folders when I extracted the archive - site and wire. The installation wasn't hard but I couldn't find my way around. I'll keep it for a bit and maybe download some READMEs.

I was able to do more with e107 but it could be the ugliest portal or the best darn thing. I'll have to make up my mind on that.

I'm off to download and test Tiki Wiki CMS, Dragonfly and Plume CMS. These should keep me busy for another day.

Busy with a good goal in mind....  ;)
(when my exams are ended, I normally can help a little on testing that CMS-things  :) - sadly not earlier I think:: even my test-pc is broken at the moment...)

You have priorities, rubentje1991. That's perfectly understandable. No one is forcing anything on anyone. Do the best on your exams, and you can help test when you have the time. You're test machine is not going to fix itself! ;D

***EDIT***
Results:
Plume was very easy to install and I had it up and running in the fastest time. It is really simple... in fact, too simple there's not much that can be done to extend to the needs of this project.

Tiki-Wiki was a larger download and when it was time to set it up, I only got as far as the DB connection. No matter what I did, it cannot locate MySQL and the DB I created for it. Yes, username and passwords had been provided.

Dragonfly was also light and easy to install. The problem was when it was time to view the site, I got blocked off for using and "Unknown User Agent".

Update: I have dumped several CMS packages and kept a few for further testings. If a package is easy to install, chances are it would be easy to tweak and configure, and easy to use. Security, of course, is an important concern but I will not be able to test this without letting it loose on the wild and different users can take a swing at it. I also note the security tools available on the admin panels of each CMS package but that is only one layer, albeit an important layer.

For today, I will take another look at OpenSourceCMS and see what else they've got. Testing the demo online is quite different from a downloaded package (sometimes the tar.gz or zip are corrupted or confusing), installing it on localhost (127.0.0.1) and trying out the admin/user panels and the viewing the page.

Peace.

After several days of testing a dozen or so CMS, I am clearing up my localhost and MySQL, and reinstall the FIVE packages that I have narrowed the selection down to as the second test.

These selection are by far the lightest and easiest to install plus a little sneak on the admin panel, and a bit of tweaking and configuring. The next test will be some serious configurations (adding/removing plugins, registration, themes, gallery, etc.).

e107 0.7.25 (full package at 3.3 Mb)

gpEasy 2.1 (939.3 Kb)

LiteNEasy 3.2.4 (2.6 Mb)

Pluck 4.6.4 (846.6 Kb)

Plume 1.2.4 (564.7 Kb)

I reserved my commentaries after the second tests. I should, however, mention that of the 5 above, Pluck was the only one that did not need a DB.

I thought of eyeOS 2.5 (26.5 Mb) which I played around with (the earlier versions) a year or two ago. I didn't like it then but I thought it had potentials. After downloading it and an uneventful installation, the only paged I was served was "Unable to establish ..." and it is this sort of thing that I dump many of the packages I have downloaded, installed and try to test.

Anyway, once I'm done with the second stage, I could take Kori or anyone else who might step forward in helping test run the project on their servers. If circumstances did change, please let us (or me) know about it.

Comments and suggestions on this plan are welcome.

Regards,
Archie

Thanks for all your work Archie!  :)  They all look great to me but I've got no idea what they are like to use so I'd be happy using whichever one you think would suit us best. Let's test out your top choices  8)

Archie, we count on you (and I didn't misspell!)

Nice selection you already have! (I don't recognize any of them, but you'll make a good choice after testing, I'm sure  :))

I have just concluded my tests on my localhost. I am currently uploading a CMS on a free hosting site, and I expect the setup to be completed in less than two days. We can then begin testing.

Note that this is a test site: PCLinuxOS Art.
