and others ... I would say that a BIOS update may be however beneficial.
About lilo config, the only relevant thing I can see right now is the option
pnpacpi=off, did you used the same option in grub installation ?
I would add
vga=normal splash=verbose too.
Also, don't know what imply the flag "large-memory".
Did you try to boot from grub using safe mode ?
Of course, do not ignore
old-polack suggestion about burning the ISO image at low speed, checking the md5sum, use an official image at least for testing so we can refer to a
known system, installing grub on MBR and of course about updates: suggested iso is PClinuxOS 2010.12-KDE
