Keyboard probs in VBox
« on: May 26, 2011, 06:55:30 AM »
Have just noticed that CTRL-whatever doesn't work in my VBox. For example, it's not possible to paste with CTRL-v; the result iv 'v'. I assume that I need to change some setting or another - can anyone help me out? Thanks.

It should work as normal.

What OS are you running and does it occur in all apps that you try it in?

On a side note - I'm guess you are aware that the Ctrl key on the right hand side of the keyboard is used by VBox for some default Shortcuts?

Edit - this can be changed if you so wish

Well, it doesn't work in Word, Wordpad, Firefox nor IE, so I assume that there's a basic problem somewhere.  That's using the left CTRL-key, BTW.  The command Edit -> Paste works, so its not a clipboard problem.

And, I'm running gnome_2010.12.

Thanks for your help  :)

Don't know what version of Windows you're using. But, I just tried IE8 and Wordpad in XP. I was able to paste text into the URL bar of IE and into the Wordpad editor using the (left) Ctrl-v combination. In your VBox settings, is the clipboard set to bidirectional? Also, do you have the latest VBox edition? (getvirtualbox package in Synaptic)

Additionally, if it is for bidirectiional copy/paste you may need Guest Additions installed as well.

Yep. Definitely, you need guest additions.

Can't find a repos containing Guest Additions   >:( .  Do I have to go outside Synaptic, or could you (or anyone else) suggest a repos which would work?
Thanks

You still haven't stated the VirtualBox version you're using.

Start VirtualBox. Start your Windows session. At the top of the VBox windows, click Devices > Install Guest Additions.

Start VirtualBox. Start your Windows session. At the top of the VBox windows, click Devices > Install Guest Additions.

Addition No 2  ;)

If remember correctly, whilst  the Guest Additions is being installed in Windows, you'll be prompted if you want to continue installing the additions, press Yes (or continue etc etc) and it will carry on installing.

To get the benefit of GA you will need to reboot your VM.
