[Solved]Just accidently deleted a folder
« on: May 24, 2011, 12:46:28 PM »
I just deleted by accident a folder on an external USB hard drive and would really really like to have it back.

I've done nothing but open this browser and come here and post. I know there has been posts about accidental deletions in the pasts so I'll start searching for them.

I don't know if I should unmount the drive or what. There are no system files just pictures and TV shows. But it's only the one folder of shows I care about. I guess I should count myself lucky  that nothing will write itself to that driver.

It was just one of those absolutely boneheaded before morning cup of coffee was finished.

I'm awake no though.

Could try PhotoRec

Synaptic Description

Data recovery software

PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from Hard Disks and CDRom and lost pictures (thus, its 'Photo Recovery' name) from digital camera memory.

PhotoRec ignores the filesystem and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's filesystem has been severely damaged or re-formatted.

Thanks I ran across that in my search and will pursue using that.

almost 100% sure that if you haven't copied anything else on the usb after the accidental deletion all your files should be recovered very well, be sure to have space on your hard disk to recover those files

photorec doesn't recover the name of the files, only the extension

Well ran into the free space issue and figured out the file names are not coming back. I hope there is a creation date or I'm going to have a heck of time figuring out the names of the episodes. But where there is a will there is way.

Im in the process of freeing up space.
