Just a warning: older versions of video drivers gonna be incompatible with new xorg and 11xorg-server versions.
Also Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia site are not fully compatible with the PCLinuxOS system (can break some packages).
On every kernel update you need to rerun the Nvidia installer.

Nvidia suggest to install the distrobution packages if they are available.

Would appreciate a translation for this. If it means that my desktops (both use nvidia) are not going to work properly, I'm in trouble. Funny thing is that I specifically made sure they had nvidia when I built them because linux had better/more stable support for nvidia than ati.... what a bummer if true. By the way... what is the "Nvidia installer"?? I've only used synaptic due to the 'if you install outside the repos, you will break your system' advice here.

I went back to the only other option I had....260.19.29-1pclos2010.  It seems to have solved MOST issues, but if I have desktop effects enabled then also try to enable "Different Widgets for each desktop", then the black screens appear again.

I'd also like to know what the "Nvidia installer" is??

I tested last week xorg-server 1.10.1 and only 270.x drivers are compatible with it.
So older drivers like 260.x won't run on xorg-server 1.10.1 with Nvidia GForce 6100 or later.
Xorg-server 1.9.5 is compatible with the 260.x drivers.

I saw Tex post about moving back to 1.9.5 to resolve the driver issue... Given how well PCLinuxOS "just works" I wonder if the xorg & nvidia people are aware of how significant their issues might be.

All the thanks goes to: Texstar, Pinoc, Menotu, Clarion1, Hootiegibbon, Sproggy. Linuzoid and a few others who did active testing the xorg packages to get "PCLinuxOS just works"

Take care.  Though I've not historically had problems when I had to use the nvidia binaries, I recently porked my desktop when I tried the ati-direct drivers and it took me days to recover.  It'll should be a STRONG push before going outside the repositories.
