Try right click on the file and rename it by adding .jpg to the end of the file name

That's all good and well, OrdiDoc but before you take the online conversion services for granted, you had better check thoroughly their terms of services. You do not want any of your photos ending up on a porn site now, do you? Besides, what those services are offering, you can already do them in your computer.

Hi,

It's not clear from the thread, but I know because have had some PM with OrdiDoc, that no application worked with that images, nor gimp, nor photoshop, it wasn't possible to upload that images to service like postimage.org.

to me, the original format is still unknown.  ???

Most likely, it's because your images have (had) no file extensions. Thus, most image viewers and editors don't know what to do with them, since they rely on the file extension (bad coding practice shortcut), rather than the actual information in the file header (good coding practice) to determine which graphics library to use to display the images. Therefore, none of your image viewers or editors knew the file format, since they didn't "open the door and look inside" at the information in the image file header.

I was thinking at something like that, but OrdiDoc reports it didn't work, additionally as far as I know at least Gimp work with or without filename extensions.

Did you mean in his post # 67 the online converter wasn't able to successfully convert the files to viewable images as well?

as far as I can see (I rely on info provided from OrdiDoc), the  online converter has been the only way that worked

First i'm not afraid of the pictures being use on a porn site, there is nothing that they can use. The pictures are from work in Alberta Canada and some people from my school.

The only information that i had as the extension is jpg|bmp|gif|pcx|png|psd|tif and that's it. I was not able to do anything with any of the software that i use in either Pclinux or Windows 7 to open them except error messages saying that the format was not recognize so i kept looking around until i decided to try to convert them using an online site. Archie had it in mind in a previous post and it work. I have my pictures, not the best quality but i don't care.

I want to thank you all for helping in finding a solution, it wasn't easy and it was not the first time that i was trying to get through this. Now that it's done i feel better about it and i have learn something new so thank you all again :)

If you still want a way to fix the images without a photo site, you can upload one of the files and post a link and one of the gang can figure out the steps necessary to make it work.

convert has numerous options for setting quality, geometry, color depth, effects, etc. You can do more with it and even convert a whole folder of pictures with a batch conversion script. To see a list of options available for use with convert, try:

Code: [Select]
$ man convert
Have you already tried ImageMagick?
