Good things come in small packages. From small minds, not so much.

Check in Synaptic. Do you have these packages installed?

libqtsvg4
librsvg2_2
libsvgalib1
python-qt4-svg

If not, install those that are missing.

libsvgalib1 was missing but nothing changed after I installed it.

Those are the only four I have installed and my .svg icons render properly. In Synaptic, click Search, then enter svg in the box. Click the Search button at the bottom. Scroll the right pane to see what else has svg in the name. Read the descriptions for hints that may seem appropriate to your installation, then try installing various packages to see if any of them make a difference.

Could you supply more information? How are you trying to display the icons? What actions have you taken? The more information you supply, the more likely someone can find some way to help. "It don't work" type statements leave out too much to help the helpers.

yes I know. let me think. okay, I was trying to use the ACYL icon theme which I've used a zillions times including in other PCLOSes. When I run the script for them, all I see is a generic circle with a slash through it instead of the icon itself. I also installed Faenza and F-dark icons and for some reason, when I try and use F-dark, they just show as generic. I'm not sure what else I can say. If I open the icon folder and just look through the icons, they just appear as a generic white file with an S through it.

Of the themes you name, faenza is in our repos. I do not find the others. So you are installing from outside sources? How? What exactly did you do to install them?

Faenza displays fine here, when installed from the repos.

hi Neal. F-dark is just a mod of Faenza with dark grey folders. Any Color You Like (ACYL) is from gnome-look.org, I have used both in pclinuxOS zen-mini, e17,openbox bonsai. I did have the same problem with Phoenix but they do work with a zen-mini install with xfce installed along with gnome.

here's ACYL running in zen-mini...

here's F-Dark running in the same thing...

You installed from outside sources then.

What program are you trying to view them in? pcmanfm can view standard svg icons.

Those look like symlinks in your picture. Where are the actual svg icons?

Do this --
Install faenza from the repos. Check that it displays properly. If it does, the problem is in locating the themes in ~/.icons. In that case, open File Manager Super User -- Menu > File Tools -- and open /usr/share/icons. Copy ~/.icons/F-dark and ~/.icons/ACYL over. Test them; they should work now.
