Hello to knowledgeable people.
Is it necessary to use the Host file to mount NFS shares from other computers.
If so, how do you deal with dhcp addresses?
Especially if the  dhcp lease address is changed , say, every hour?
Also, can an NFS share be seen by the system if not in the Host file?

what do you want to share, a partition on your system on your local network?

i use samba because i share ntfs partitions with other windows machines

Hi T6,
I am trying to share partitions via NFS to other computers on the network.
There are 5 machines and 2 laptops. I am setting names and addresses in the host file because I cannot see anything unless I do that. But is it necessary?
One of these machines is my server, The interesting thing is that with 2009 I had all machines talking to each other
I do not know why it has become so difficult..
I also share via Samba as the 2 laptops have XP and win7 64 on them as well as PCLinuxos.
Try as I may I cannot get samba shares working  on every machine....I also do not get nfs working on every machine!!!
Your thoughts on this matter greatfully received.
