I know this isn't any help but flash does stream nicely in Linux on certain hardware.  Its the inconsistency that annoys us all.

Edited my post because the add on I found will not work in PCLinuxOS. Sorry but I did not want anyone to try something that could cause more issues, so I removed my previous comments.

I have tried forefox with addons disabled, but that doesn't make any difference that I can see, nor does turning off hardware acceleration.
On youtube at 360 setting in normal screen size, it isn't bad, expanded or full screen is now the problem.
I have changed the engine in Konqueror and that is now as good as Firefox.
There does seem to be a little improvement since I just updated to the latest Kernel (kernel-2.6.38.6-pclos1.bfs), but that may be wishful thinking.

I have tried adding the main updates nonfree kde4 games testing to the section, but just don't know how to do it. ???

Even for this rig, performance is good and all 3d works

In Synaptic > Settings > Repositories >

Select the repo you use (remember only ONE repo should ever be selected) and make sure the Section(s) line looks like the one shown in the image below.

When thats done do a Reload and that will bring any apps in the Testing section through to your Synaptic window (currently there are a LOT being tested so please make sure you don't install them all)  ;)

Well, I have done that successfully, although I finally found the flash config under lost and found.
Changed one thing about sites saving info on computer.
Generally I think I have improved video play back in the standard size screens, but full screen is good on some, bad on others.
I think also my browsers are running a bit quicker.

So I guess this is partly solved, but seems I have to wait for future development before I can call this solved.
However, this experience has left me with some questions on other software parts that I will make new posts for.

Thanks for all the help.

i reached the same conclusion some months ago

the real problem is mp4 videos on high resolution, flv videos are not a big problem

Just as a matter of interest, is it possible that some of these problems could be caused by the Kernel version.
I was just wondering, if an older Kernel would show any improvement.
I am running the latest 2.6.38.6-pclos1.bfs, simply because I always update to the latest of anything in synaptic.
Perhaps I'm not doing myself any favours.
If anyone has had any experience of different kernels making any sort of difference or can answer the above, I would much appreciate it, rather then installing different kernel versions, if it's going to be a waste of time.

I have upgraded to the latest pae.bfs kernel and downgraded flash to 10.2.159.1, this has completely cured my choppy video problems.

I think the crux of the problem is inherent in the latest version of flash.

Good Luck

That is really interesting and something I would like to try.
But, how do I downgrade Flash plugin.
In synaptic I can only see the latest.

You would have to remove the version that is installed and grab the adobe rpm and install it. Keep in mind that only packages in the repos are supported. Still, it should be simple enough to try and it would be nice to see flash working right for you. You should use "mylivecd" to back up your system, just in case.

No need to get the adobe RPM, just go to Synaptic and select the flash-player-plugin.
On the menu bar click Package > Force Version
Select the version you want to downgrade to in the pop-up window and click the Force Version button.
Click apply.
you'll need to log out and in again to ensure you're using the downgraded version

7272andy, I did not realize the older versions were still available but you are right and that looks like a safer way of doing this. I am glad you are keeping an eye on this thread.  :)
