Going to Xorg server 1.7 and beyond
« on: May 14, 2011, 04:49:59 PM »
Does anyone know when we'll get to Xorg server 1.7 or 1.8?  We've been using 1.6.5 for a while and think it's time for a change.

Likewise.  Are there improvements in the newer Xorg servers?

And I'm getting some x-related stuff in the testing section of my local repo  :)
However no notification yet of having to test it  8) -- and it will have to be tested thoroughly before release I think  ;D

I appreciate the link rubentje1991. I had heard about things being updated and now I can see how it will take place.

Yeah, I am confident everything will be well tested.

Edit: I took the time to pass this information on to some of my friends that have recently started using PCLinuxOS because they may not have seen Texstar's post. Those are some pretty big changes but after seeing how Texstar handled the switch from KDE 3x to KDE 4 I am sure this will work out for the best when everything is in place. I am kind of excited about all of this rather than worried like I would be in any other distribution.  :) Can't wait to see what choices are made.

Very soon. Already started pushing preliminary packages into testing section. We will be getting xorg server >= 1.10.1.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

I saw that on Twitter. I like the way Texstar keeps us up to speed on development. I even did a little bit of searching and reading about xorg-server 1.10.1 to get an idea of what to expect.

Texstar has been hard at work on patches, drivers and xorg-server.

Pushed xorg 1.10.1 packages into testing. Please read the testers mailing list for more information.

I think Texstar has everything under control.  ;D

Built some xorg 1.9.5 xorg server packages for the testers with nvidia cards to test to see if it works better than xorg 1.10.1 pkgs

I saw this on Texstar's Twitter today. This is why I am so impressed with Texstar's work and this distribution.
