previewing of audio files <solved>

A few months ago I inquired as to the possibility of previewing audio files in KDE4.5 desktop by hovering the mouse pointer over them (this was a KDE3.5 feature I liked. I was told that this was not supported in KDE4.5....however for a while last week this feature was working again on my installation of KDE4.5.  After my most recent rolling update thru the Synaptic this feature is again not working. Anyone know what might be going on?

i was checking and the option is not listed anymore on konqueror or dolphin(never heard of it on dolphin, i believe that never existed)

are you sure it worked?  all i see is preview for videos(thumbnails, i disabled that too, uses resources on my very limmited machines, same for songs)

also i have in dolphin a option to preview the file in the right side of the dolphin window in the information option(press F11), basically it calls a multimedia player, a small version included in dolphin, very handy but uses lots of resources while checking the file(specially on videos)

i find funny that you ask for this, the first thing i did when i installed mandriva 6-7 years ago was turn that off

using my pc at 3 am and accidentally previewing a song or a "video" was a no go

I'm not missing that either. I have no idea how to go about activating it.

In Dolphine go to view > panels and mark information -  a panel shows on the right.  If you hover a file it will preview.  If it is mp3 or mpg etc you need to click the play button but it is not bad.  little less then what Kong did but it works the trick.  I think it makes use of dragon player to do this.

If you don't show a "preview" when hovering the mouse over a file, try F11; it makes it work here.

Yes F11 turns the information panel on and off too - that is nice - I have have always left it on.  I have a large desktop and using this function would be better on my laptop screen.

It IS possible in Dolphin (I just tested it!) - and I used it before, but I more like the information pane, and not the two things together....

To view examples when you hover an image file (tooltips), do the following:
In Dolphin, go to Settings >> Configure Dolphin. There appears a new Dolphin Preferences Window.
Select in the left column the tab "General", and in the first tab (Behavior), select "Show Tooltips"
Press 'Apply' and 'OK', and test it out....

Example working on my Laptop:

Sorry, mistake of my side...

I now just see the op is asking for audio files, and not picture files....
Yes it was possible in the past... not now at the moment:

However, when you open e.g. vlc, and want to open a file, you just can hover a music-file, and it will play automatically when hovering (I'm very sure about that, because some weeks ago, my laptop was connected to a music installation, with many people, and it played music file when I hovered with my touch pad (I'm not that fast with a touch pad), without me wanting it 
But it is possible there  (sorry, this is only a work around)

rubentje, thanks for the input but it does not work with an audio file on my machine....perhaps you misunderstood my question "previewing an audio file" by rolling over it with the cursor.

Fellow PCLOS users (all who have read and commented on this thread) I believe I have now discovered the error which led to this post. My machine is setup with multiple desktop environments and I now believe that I was using the Gnome desktop when the auto play of audio files was noticed recently (not KDE4.5). My sincere apolgies to all....I was told previously that this feature was not implemented on KDE4.5 but became convinced that it was...sorry I was bull headed about something that I wanted to work.
