Mobile internet [SOLVED]

Just got myself a new HTC Wildfire phone (Android) which comes with unlimited, yes unlimited, mobile internet. I have been trying to connect it to my laptop but have so far failed. The phone comes with an .exe file which pairs the phone to a PC but of course this doesn't run under Linux. I have follows the instructions for pairing the phone to a PC to allow the phone to be used as a modem for mobile internet but without success. Anyone have an Android phone and have been able to connect it to a PC as a modem?

I have just downloaded the froyo 2.2 update,settings - about phone-system software updates- check for update.....
    The new 2.2 software when installed turns the phone into a wi fi hot spot which enables up to 8 devices to connect........Just check the wi fi hotspot button to activate, then search for the device with your lap top.....i tried it, its good worked first time for me,web browsing was a little slow,but non the less it works
