screen rotation? never tried it on linux, this doesn't depend on a driver, it is a function that must be recognized by the keyboard and handled by the os

never heard of that particular function or which app could handle it

keytouch could help you, it is a app that can handle special keys like this one, it offers a menu to select the app or command to do, now, the question is which one is

the link you posted looks very old, it mentions a very very old nvidia driver for the video card so not sure if that helps or can be used anymore

about the pen, it mentions a module, have you searched for it?  does it exist on synaptic or is part of the kernel?

The drivers I am really after is a pen function and a screen rotation button to work. The video card seems to be in order for now, but still can't be for sure. I found an 'blog' where someone put Gentoo on the exact same system as mine:

http://codex.xiaoka.com/~smoku/TC1000/gentoo-on-tc1000.html

The screen rotation is a function of the video driver. Here's an example from the KDE Control Center:

However, he's not doing it that way, or with a "button" either. He's setting the tablet in either landscape or portrait mode at boot time with GRUB parameters. Here are the stanzas from his grub.conf:

title  Gentoo GNU/Linux Landscape
kernel (hd0,1)/boot/kernel-2.6.7-gentoo-r11 root=/dev/hda2 vga=0x318

title  Gentoo GNU/Linux Portrait
kernel (hd0,1)/boot/kernel-2.6.7-gentoo-r1 root=/dev/hda2 vga=0x318 Xlayout=Portrait

For the pen driver, he supplies two possible source code trees, depending on which version of X you're using, XFree86(older) or Xorg(newer). The instructions are in this section:

Quote
Grab my fpi2002-0.5.tar.gz port of the fpi2002 enabler for kernel 2.6 and the tc1k-1.1.tar.gz driver for XFree.
Compile and install fpi2002 and add it to /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6. It needs to be loaded before any other serial port driver for it to work.
Unarchive tc1k pen driver and copy it to XServer modules dir

# cp tc1k-1.1/tc1k_drv.o /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/

and use my xorg.conf. ;-)

All this looks doable, provided you have kernel headers or source code, gcc and make installed. What you haven't said is what you installed on the tablet. Is it PCLinuxOS, Gentoo, Debian, Slackware, Puppy or what? (If you don't want to say, you can PM me.)

Please excuse the long pause, work and life sometimes get in the way of things that you want to do. And thank you for following this thread, and helping where you can.

I am going to make this a long post as I understand that there is alot of info needed in order to continue to get the help I do need.

Thank you djohtson for clarifying what I was after.

As of right now I am running PCLOS Phoenix . It seems as the distro has not required as many resources as the others that I tried. (Genome, and E17 both maxed out the proc by just moving the mouse around).

After rereading the instructions at the web-site previously posted, for the 100th time, something clicked. So here are some screen shots that I was able to make and hopefully help you help me. The first on is a list of 'installed hardware'

Part of the instructions to install the stylistic pen was to run a 'set serial' command to make sure that the port for the screen is available and configed. My results are below. According to what I read this is correct, but I am unsure HOW to make it work.

Another part of this puzzle is the driver that needed to be installed. After fiddling around with things I have found it and looks to be installed.

I have also listened to what all of you were saying and installed the following programs from the Synaptic repository. If this is wrong please let me know.

Know the only thing is to get all of this to work. I know it can be done, but I am not capable of finding out how on my own. Any help I could get would be most appreciated.

Thanks Again,
Chris

Ok, I have been messing around with the screen shots for over an hour now and still can't get them to show up. Am going to continue to try.

T6- According to the built in proc monitor, both e17 and Gnome would over task it. Don't know why. Never did try a KDE version, however I know it would be to much for the system.

use a service like postimage.org
