KDE vs GNOME vs XFCE hhd size

Hi,
I have been using XFCE for a long time now cause of it's easy to use and less resources needed. Still since some weeks I have been trying KDE. I was expecting KDE to take much more space than XFCE, but i didn't notice anything like this.
Since I installed KDE as a new install and I reinstalled all my programs, I though maybe I forgot some programs I have on my XFCE installation, or KDE is just not as big as I though.

So, can somebody tell me what is the average space needed for all these DE's?

BPsoftware, Someone maybe able to give a more exact size on these desktops, but here is my thoughts on what you are asking: the raw size of the desktops will be a difference of megabytes only. The size of the installation will depend on what is installed as far as support pkges and programs. With this, you can have a smaller install with say kde than xfce if you include more on the xfce install.

The difference in the desktops are how they perform on your given computer. A xfce desktop will run under less ram than a kde desktop and this will make it faster. This only holds true until we start adding things, such as everytime I use a xfce install I add compiz. So in affect, I have put this desktop up to what a gnome install would use. My kde is around 300megs at the desktop while an e17 desktop will be around 150 megs.  Hope this helps a little. Ken

the packages used by kde are around 400 mbs compressed, decompressed around 700mbs

gnome is around 350mbs compressed

xfce is around 250 compressed(possibly less)

the diffeence in hard disk space requirement is not important this days

what is important is if the de you use can work fast on the cpu/ram/gpu you have
