Where has my network gone--again--???
« on: May 07, 2011, 07:07:14 PM »
Hi to all,
Neither 2010.0-2010.12-2010.12 with upgrades will find other than themselves and the router.
fping -aAsg 192.168.1.0 192.168.1.99 returns only the local machine and 192.168.1.1 which is the router.
Before leaving home, about 5 weeks ago, everything was working well. But now I can no longer logon to the server, or indeed any other machine with which I share data. So at this time I have 8 stand-alone machines. All on the internet...
Your thoughts on this subject will be greatfully received.
!st addition----
I have changed the 1GB switch for another 1GB switch....No change
I have changed the 1Gb switch for a 10/100MB hub.....again no change.
I have put in new type 6 cables...Again not change.
2nd. addition----
I have now changed the ADSL router---No change
Put in new cables ,,again,, and put the PC's directly to the ADSL router directly---No change
So it appears to be nothing to do with the hardware I am running--There is nothing to swap out now.
Yet no PC can see other then itself and the ADLS router
3rd addition---
I have a complete re-installation of 2010.12 on all machines including the laptops and the network was working with NFS and SMB.
After a few updates (from the AARNET server) I can now not network any more at least only with SMB NO NFS.
Could anyone explain why an update 2010.12 can cause NFS to fail??
I now have 2010.12 on a single disk--no updates-- and networking is fine???
