Just 19 ... to make this simple i am gonna break down your passage and then i hope you understand your silly request ...

"@Kori
I made no request .......  I made a couple of suggestions.
I used the name of an app that is not, as far as I recall, in the ISO, as an example."

Yes firefox isnt in the iso ... why ... because XFCE has it's own browser called Midori ... so how Firefox looks to me is irrelivant nore is it a care ... PLease read the first message where it states it is packed with the XFCE native APPS ...

The suggestion was that you might consider ensuring that there is consistency in the way apps are shown to the user in your ISO.
Some have more descriptive entries than others.

Yes that may be due to the entries in the Desktop files at packaging ......  as is clearly illustrated by the FF example you quoted above. The English entry is possibly the only one without 'browser' in the name.

Whether or not you consider the time to edit those few entries, to give consistency for the ISO, worth the effort is your decision.
It was a suggestion.

I am not personally going to go through 12000+ packages adjusting every name in every desktop file to satisfy your need for a menu that you want ... the packages are built by a group of dedicated people who i am not going to go behind them and double check the work they have done and change it ... if you want a change in the package ... then please add a thread to the broken packages section ... im sure that after a few times of you adding those type of futile messages that the packagers will be fed up with your request ... quite simple i will not be repackaging non XFCE apps to satisfy your suggestion or request

Your suggestion that an intermediate/advanced user who normally uses a different DE, should need to read a lot of material from elsewhere, such as the mag, before they find simple things like how to change theme/wallpaper etc. etc., will, IMO, ensure a lot those users, new to this DE, will just put it aside and forget it.
My suggestion was that a simple link to some help topics would be valuable to users new to the DE.

You need to re-read what i said about the intermediate/advanced users ...

Quote
Phinx is the mini version designed for the Intermediate/advanced user ...

i went on to discuss your menu issue ... the above is a statement ... which means exactly what it says ... if you are a beginner then Phinx is not for you ... it's a mini iso and has been designed from the base up to use only native XFCE apps ... hence the reason i have specifically packaged native apps myself ... i have spent many months working on this iso ... Phinx is for the purist ... quite simply ... she has all the apps she needs to work and run and do every task i need her for ... if you choose to install nautilus or firefox .... then you have to live with the result they have on Phinx ...

quite simply Phinx is for the intermediate/advanced user ... i shouldnt need to hold the users hand in using it ... valid requests and feedback are always welcome ...

I made suggestions ........  get over it. I made no .....  REPEAT NO .......  requests.

No one said you had to like every suggestion you received.

There is no need to attack those who make suggestions at your own request.

I use Firefox as an EXAMPLE .....  specifically because it was not in the ISO, to try to avoid the very thing you have done .....  presume I was speaking specifically of any one app in the ISO.    ::)

Yeah, like there are that many entries in the menu list in your ISO.
Read what I posted for goodnes sake.

If you meant intermediate/advanced XFCE user then maybe you should have said so.

An Intermediate/Advanced Linux user is not necessarily familiar with the Xfce DE, and what I said about tips etc in that regard is valid for such a user.

I will use this experience as a learning process, and in future recall it to remind me to refuse to respond to requests for suggestions.

i was gonna drag myself down to your level CO ... but i wont ... i will just say what section of the forum is this???? ... and that is all i have to say ... i would advise you stick with KDE ... which by the way has the same menu item labelled the same way as Phinx ... LXDE/E17/Opendbox and every other version of PCLOS ...

this is just your old habits of trolling reappearing ... you may have changed your name but your habits never change ...

if it doesnt meet your needs then dont use it simple as that ... enough said on the subject

Running on my EeePC - and running very well!

Had one small issue - no sound when first installed. The Mixer claimed Gstreamer couldn't find my sound card. Eventually I added a few of the Gstreamer plugins (based on the same netbook running the Phoenix xfce version) and the sound is back. Not sure if that is just an Intel soundcard issue or not...

Otherwise, lovely iso - runs great. Already started adding in my own little faves - gigolo for example.

I did have to run alsaconf to get sound working, but other than that, I've yet to have any other problems running RC1 in VirtualBox.

May I suggest the entries in the Menu might have a better description for those apps where only the name is given.

What I mean is that if there is an entry for FireFox, that it should read  FireFox Web Browser .......  yes I know FF is not there, it is but an example. ;)

For new users maybe a Hints & Tips link could also be considered, that would direct the user to such things as
How to change the wallpaper, theme, panel position & settings etc.

It booted fine from LiveUSB for me ....  but baulked at Copy2Ram for some reason not yet known.

regards.

 ;D ;D ;D

When a couple of suggestions in response to your request for feedback, gets you all riled up, in attack mode and you descend to name calling then I think you should look closer to home for a cause.   ;)

No not yet. Well that's not entirely correct, I had to go into PCC and enable pulse than sound was golden :)

Great work!

The only issue I had was 'no sound', but the gstreamer plugins solved that.

I know how frustrating and time consuming it is to develop a new spin, and I appreciate your work. I have put my software on, and I have a few little issues but they have nothing to do with the base install. In fact this is a spare machine, that I generally leave in the closet, because it destined to be a set top box. This install seem so stable and slick that I am going to leave it up, and bang it for a little while longer.

Again, great work.

Thanks for the feedback dude ... i have updated the Iso to include the missing gstreamer package ... so that should resolve that for all future users ... this is great that your going to use it as a set top box ...  will be interesting to hear how she performs with you pushing all the media types through her ... welcome to the User Club lol
