Here is my feedback:

I would change the default icons to something that gives more contrast against the default background if it was me. Or darken the background.

Thanks for listening and thanks very much for the update.

Downloading right now - will post back after I've used it for a while.

In the meantime, thanks for all the hard work that's gone into the creation of this RC release.

Edit - I used the first link (cozmodesigns.co.uk) and it was reasonably fast at approx 700K  (I always try and stay away from users Dropbox downloads coz of the reason Sproggy posted)

May I suggest the entries in the Menu might have a better description for those apps where only the name is given.

What I mean is that if there is an entry for FireFox, that it should read  FireFox Web Browser .......  yes I know FF is not there, it is but an example. ;)

For new users maybe a Hints & Tips link could also be considered, that would direct the user to such things as
How to change the wallpaper, theme, panel position & settings etc.

It booted fine from LiveUSB for me ....  but baulked at Copy2Ram for some reason not yet known.

regards.

Phinx is the mini version designed for the Intermediate/advanced user ... for the menu entries ... just hold ya mouse their longer than a split second click ... you might be surprised ...

The menu entries are taken directly from the name field of the Installed package ... as you used Firefox as your example heres the desktop file for it ...

Ive changed it's name and made it bold to show you ... but im sure if you would like to help repackage every package in the repo to meet your requirements im sure we will be able to cater for your need ... as stated if you mouse over for a second longer you will see that you get the tooltip description which is the Comment field of the desktop file ... i see it does the job adequately

as for the changing of themes wallpapers etc etc ... in the menu located at the top is a little feature called XFCE Settings Manager ... this has been covered many times in the past and has even had a special magazine version made for it ... you can go view the article here

PCLinuxOS Magazine: Gtk Lightweight Desktops: Xfce & LXDE Special Edition

This was created by the awesome magazine staff ... have a good read ... it will help you tweak to your hearts contect

I gave feedback to be met with this sarcastic comment

Is it any wonder that I see posts on this forum about people being unwilling to test and give feedback?

Pfft, what a snarky comment. This has nothing to do with package testing on the testers mailing list.

Comment withdrawn, with apologies.

It was unnecessary and inaccurate.  :(

Tex apologies for someone having a spat at the testers ML ... that was not the idea of my response to Just19 ...

@Just19 ... my comment was not meant with sarcasm but with jest ... as for your simple little request would mean nearly every package being overhauled ... and i certainly dont have the time to do it ... nor would i step on others who package to change their work for the need of something so trivial ... if you are going to try something new i would suggest exploring the environment you will find that you can adjust the settings to show a generic name ... so it would replace Firefox with Web Browser ... or Thunderbird with email client ... simply right click on the launch button ... select properties ... and place a tick in SHOW GENERIC APPLICATION NAMES ...

I find the latest version really nice. Everything was detected (except sound, which was quickly corrected using alsaconf), and I like the theme a lot.

The only issue I'm having is with Firefox and Thunderbird, where some text is simply illegible. This concerns mainly tabs and message boxes.

Otherwise I haven't found any problems to report. Great work!

@Kori
I made no request .......  I made a couple of suggestions.
I used the name of an app that is not, as far as I recall, in the ISO, as an example.

The suggestion was that you might consider ensuring that there is consistency in the way apps are shown to the user in your ISO.
Some have more descriptive entries than others.

Yes that may be due to the entries in the Desktop files at packaging ......  as is clearly illustrated by the FF example you quoted above. The English entry is possibly the only one without 'browser' in the name.

Whether or not you consider the time to edit those few entries, to give consistency for the ISO, worth the effort is your decision.
It was a suggestion.

Your suggestion that an intermediate/advanced user who normally uses a different DE, should need to read a lot of material from elsewhere, such as the mag, before they find simple things like how to change theme/wallpaper etc. etc., will, IMO, ensure a lot those users, new to this DE, will just put it aside and forget it.
My suggestion was that a simple link to some help topics would be valuable to users new to the DE.

Hi Torsten ...

you can solve your issue in a split second ... open Thunar and show all hidden files ... in your /home/user folder is a file called .gtkrc delete it and it will resolve your issue ... this is a remnant of a shared /home/ partition
