I've had a long break from PCLOS and am just trying to get back into it, having just re-installed.  (I was not very well experienced in Linux ways at my point of departure, and therefore am still a bit of a novice.)

I need to download/install Truecrypt, but it is no longer in the repositories.

I saw that Texstar posted the following comment:

Quote
Truecrypt seems to need sudo so putting both into the special section of the repos.

I was not aware of the nature of the special section and upon looking for further information I found this post, also from Texstar:

There is one section called special and contains a few things we don't want in the normal repositories. This section is not enabled by default. This section is for those special needs users such as those who want wine unstable or freetype2 with bytecode enabled or minitube that doesn't work with kde4 phonon-xine backend. Normally one enables this section installs what they need then disables it as to not pull in other things they do not want installed.

Would someone please tell me where the special section is located and how I can access it?  (I've looked throughout Synaptic and cannot find any reference.)

Am I right to assume that Truecrypt will be located there, in the special section?

What about the sudo that Texstar mentioned in the statement "... putting both into the special section ..."?  I understand that sudo is used to gain root privileges but is there also something associated with this that I will find in and should download from the special section?  If so, how do I use it.

As you can see, I need to learn a lot, so I'd be very grateful for any assistance.

Synaptic > Settings > Repositories > click on your chosen repo > add special to the Sections() line > click OK > Reload.

Thanks Neal for the quick reply.  All's well now, I've got Truecrypt up-and-running.

I'll mark as SOLVED.
