I used pcc to change the video drivers and I'm using "nvidia cards not working with nv"  (ugly, same with vesa)

In another thread  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,90668.msg760426.html#msg760426 JohnW_57 says something about recover the old nvidia drivers from here http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.nonfree/

What do you think? any ideas?

If you have problems with the 270.41.06 driver and want use older drivers.
Download from: http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.nonfree/  (as example).
dkms-nvidia-current-260.19.44-1pclos2011.i586.rpm and x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-260.19.44-1pclos2011.i586.rpm
Run in konsole (terminal) as su: apt-get remove --purge x11-driver-video-nvidia-current dkms-nvidia-current
Run from your download location in terminal as su: rpm -Uvh  dkms-nvidia-current-260.19.44-1pclos2011.i586.rpm x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-260.19.44-1pclos2011.i586.rpm

Run XFdrake.

Twice, even installed nvidia-current-cuda-opencl-260.19.44-1pclos2011.i586.rpm (don't know if needed) but no use, I'm still with vesa.

Any other idea?

After installing the driver, did you rerun PCC --> Hardware --> Configure Video Card?

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Yes I did several times times

Is that twice as many as several times?  ;D

Assuming this was working before with the older driver, do you have more than one kernel installed, so you can try a different one? Possibly an older one that already has the 260.19.44 module in place?

Either is part of the video driver problem or the computer take their own decisions  ;D  (could be an incipient Parkinson/Alzheimer but better not  :-\ )

I have an old kernel in that machine, will try to boot from there tomorrow, right now I'm on the laptop finishing a project in what it seems a long night  :P

Thank you for your interest, will report tomorrow.

I took a little time off from the work and went to the desktop, working now with an older kernel, it recognized the older nvidia drivers.

What now? should I keep this kernel or could I return to the other?  I confess... don't understand anything  :-[

Keep that kernel in reserve and try uninstalling the other through Synaptic, then when it's gone, install it again as a new kernel. On first boot, dkms should then rebuild the 260.19.44 driver module to work with it. If that works, pin the module so it doesn't get upgraded when you do future upgrades.

Thank you O-P all is working now

Before I uninstalled the kernel on of my kids used the desktop and told me "is not working" he reverted (thanks to last...) to the 260.19.44 kernel, after that the old kernel didn't work with the nvidia drivers also  ???

I looked for the latest kernel in repos and installed it, is worked great again using 260.19.44-1 nvidia drivers, I think I'll keep it that way. For now I will only make a remaster  ;D

Thank you again.
