Unrecognized Epson Scanner 3170 Photo
« on: May 04, 2011, 01:32:52 AM »
Hi there !

Everything is ok for me about PCLinuxOS Distro, everything BUT my Epson scanner.

Well, I noticed a few interesting things  :

- 1) My Epson scanner Model 3170 Photo DOES work under PCLinuxOS using Vuescan.

Vuescan said my scanner was recognized but some package was missing so I installed the 2 iscan ones.
Now, it works but I only got Vuescan demo version at the moment and don't intend to give $45 to be able to scan a few pages a month !

- 2) When trying to manually add my scanner, I noticed they are TWO entries with Epson, one called 'Epson' and two lines below, another one called 'Epson corp."

- 3) The choice is irrelevant though as the config tool does NOT save it.
When you click ok it still says 'No available scanner found in your system', when that same scanner is working under Vuescan  :D

Well, I hope this bug could be fixed for my Epson scanner does work under other Linux distributions...

Have a nice day everyone !
