(solved) How to install a new kernel?

Is there a 'sticky' or a written document on how to install a new kernel? I have been searching this forum without success for a procedure on doing this. Am I missing something here? Is it as simple as installing one via synaptic and rebooting?

It has been a few years since I did a kernel recompile and install (RedHat/CentOS), so maybe it has become less of a chore. And as a distrohopper, I haven't stuck with one distro long enough to feel a need to upgrade the kernel (PCLOS has cured that habit for the most part.)

Currently I am running 2.6.33.7-pclos6.bfs on a Toshiba A305 laptop and have experienced some powersave issues, so I thought a new kernel may help.

So, where do I look for kernel upgrade info?

It is as simple as installing one via synaptic and rebooting. Really. Be sure you are fully updated first.

That's good to hear. I must have been overthinking the process too much. As a former Unix Sysadmin  supporting servers running HP-UX, I am used to having long complicated procedures to follow. I could get used to this...

PCLinuxOS is intended as a home system. There are plenty of GUI tools available, though cli can be used if you prefer. We do recommend that you use Synaptic to install any additional software you need, with 2 exceptions - use LibreOffice Manager to install LibreOffice and use getvirtualbox to install virtualbox. You'll find we have an extensive list - 14000+ - of apps in our repos.

Have a look through the menus. You'll find lots of easy to use tools. :)

Oh, I am quite familiar with PCLOS. Started using it off and on since version .92 , just never upgraded the kernel. But I moved from there to various distros out of curiosity.  Came back to PCLOS but couldn't remember my login, so I lost my postcount.

We don't do other distro discussion. Would appreciate no further discussion of those you tried.
