Better, as PCLinuxOS is not subject to Windows malware. That is not to say a Windows VM would not be. A Windows VM would be subject to the same malware as a Windows  installation directly to hardware.

Do you really mean vmplayer and not virtualbox?  I'm not sure why you'd want to run vmplayer, unless you are thinking of using a modded vmware BIOS.

Vmplayer is not in the PClinuxos repository, and hence would be unsupported. While it can be installed on Pclinuxos, the insalltion scripts will attempt tp compile vmplayer modules and this can often fail, moslty due to the fact that vmplayer lags behind the latest kernels.

But winxp runs fine as a guest on Pclinuxos host using Virutalbox, which is more than can said for Windows 7.

Yes, XP runs very well as a guest on any O/S with Virtualbox.

If you're trying to game with virtualization howeve,r you may be barking up the wrong tree.  It was not meant to do that.

i agree completely with all whats been said

remember that if xp will access internet your virtual machine will require a antivirus too, just as a normal xp install, all tricks apply will be required(registry editors, system cleaner, antimalware...)

WinXP runs better on a PCLinuxOS host than it ever did installed to the computer hard drive!

O-P is correct ... while PCLinuxOS is safe from the malware that commonly afflicts Windows, a copy of Windows running in a virtual machine may not be so lucky. But, running WinXP in a virtual machine gives you another safeguard: after you have your WinXP VM set up like you want, make a backup copy of the VirtualBox virtual drive file (*.vdi). Then, should your WinXP VM copy ever get corrupted, simply copy the backup over the working copy. You will be back up and running your WinXP VM in a LOT less time than it takes to reinstall the WinXP VM.

If you're gaming I'd honestly recommend installing Windows side by side with Linux.  Preferably on a separate hard drive.  The overhead with virtualization for doing high load graphics is immense, and simply not worth it.

Why not try using wine? Wine has improved quite a bit and I have found games that once would not work in wine are now working. As a matter of fact I have a few games that wont run worth of crap on my Windows 7 gaming machine, but run quite well using wine on the PCLinuxOS machine. There is also Play On Linux in the repo's. It may have an installer already included for what ever game you want to play. Just my 2 cents!  ;)
