I'm not that knowledgeable about kde, but wouldn't desktop widgets have to be unlocked to move trash?

Neal - Not certain but I believe that when (r/click desktop)  Desktop Settings and Folder View is being used (which obviously  ;)  ) is when you can have Folders shown on the desktop they are independent of the Plasma Widgets therefore I don't think Lock/Unlocking Widgets comes into play.  (i.e. they are not part of the Plasma set )

ms_meme - have you tried Configure Trash Bin to see which settings are applied?

You are perfectly capable of following my Howto. The warning is added so people try to concentrate while they do what I wrote and instead of one folder they don't zap the entire home / settings / files.

This would be the truth in a case where Emptying the Trash solves the problem.

Thanks. I've concentrated so much on other things that I've not learned too much about kde4.

I will study Andy's suggestion again later and try it when I am calm.  (I've become a wee bit upset when I find myself not able to comprehend and want to be sure I understand before I clicky.)

Another means of doing what Andy described .....

Go to

/home/meme/.local/share/Trash/     -> change the meme username as appropriate

and in the two folders delete the files found there. The folders are named "files" and "info".

I have just had this same problem
Trash showing empty and when I right click on a file and select move to trash
it says that Trash has reached its max. limit

I unlocked Widgets - right clicked on the Trash can - clicked on TrashCan settings -
Removed the check mark for Limit to Maximum Size.

Now I can right click on the file and send it to the Trash

EDIT: after sending the file to the Trash, then emptying the Trash Can, I added back the check mark for
Limit to maximum size.
Now the Trash works as it should.

I chose this method and it worked.  :)
