Gnome 2010 Unable to delete Ethernet Connection
« on: April 28, 2011, 05:48:17 PM »
Using PCLOS Gnome I'm unable to delete the ethernet connection using the Admin Control Center. I delete it,it says it has been deleted, then it returns on the next boot up.I have set up the wifi many times. Is there a way to make the wifi default because of the inability to delete the ethernet connection?I usually have to connect the wifi each time I boot up . Some times it does connect.
Thanks

Just a thought - can you not disable the ethernet in your BIOS settings? That will stop Gnome from detecting it each time and resetting your connections.

Could have a look in

PCC (Configure Your Computer) >> System >> Manage System Services by enabling them or disabling them

to see which networks are set to start at boot time

Have you tried removing all your connections - rebooting - and then adding your WIFI one back

Another possible way to disable the ethernet would be to blacklist the module used by your card.

I tried in the control panel ;deleted the connections, rebooted, reinstalled wifi, but the ethernet connection remained. It is an intermittent thing ;sometimes it does, have the connection at boot-up,other times no.My other puter doesn't do this.

Very odd, mine doesn't do this. Did you have an ethernet connection configured previously?
There is no shame in saying "I don't know".

I have both wired and wireless connections configured and it works without the problem. When i boot without LAN cable, it uses wifi con without any conflicts.
It's really odd this is happening.
Try this:

run PCC in terminal, then delete the connection and see what it says. And send output here so we could solve this

Sorry for the lapse  of time. Yes, I did have an ethernet connection before I plugged it into the netgear wifi router. My other computer on the wifi network doesn't do this.It was also interchanged on the ethernet cable.

Running PCC in a terminal should prompt you for password, and open up Control Centre  display in terminal.

No,I just booted up,and had to connect the wifi connection. The ethernet keeps reappearing in the connections,no matter how many times I delete it.The thing is sometimes the wifi does start at boot up,other times it doesn't.Why would the empty ethernet port get precedent, and the wifi card not get recognized?
