Hi Folks:
Just noted a few updates in synaptic, mostly related to gnome-mediaplayer. Got
the following message in synaptic after updating.
Is this serious or it can be ignored?
Thanks!
P. S. My system is fully updated PCLXOS_KDE 4.10.1, 32 Bits

While installing package gecko-mediaplayer-1.0.8-2pclos2013:

Error in file "/usr/share/applications/ggl-gtk.desktop": "app/gg" is an invalid
MIME type ("app" is an unregistered media type)
Error in file "/usr/share/applications/ggl-qt.desktop": "app/gg" is an invalid
MIME type ("app" is an unregistered media type)

It can be ignored.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Unfortunately I did update my laptop and now my guest account has a "Black Screen", the root account still works but has not widgets. The graphics card is an Intel 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device. So no NVidia here... And also, before the update, the sound had problems...  :(

So I am considering reinstalling the hole thing but don't know where to start since I don't want to erase my "/home" partition since I have allot of data there.

Praxis,

Backup up your /home directory onto some external media such
as a USB thumb drive.  I backup my /home directory regularly
and my entire / with a PCLinuxOS Live CD once a week.

The practice has certainly saved my bacon (and data) on more
than one occasion.

If you need to re-install, simply do it and recover the important
bits from the backup.

Of course, when I see a large update or ones that have obvious
system files, I do a / backup first. Just in case...

Cheers,

Aussiebear.

Thanks AussieBear, I think I will do that because it seems that would be faster to re-install everything rather than try to fix it. I just have to be careful of what packages to update...   :o

Backup... A magical habit that I have to do on a regular basis, and I really meant to do that, but as always I put it in the "to do later" list.
