Major trouble with Firefox
« on: April 27, 2011, 08:48:39 AM »
Yesterday I was doing some job searches. Specifically I was looking at the BNSF and Union Pacific career sites. Then Firefox crashed. Since then Firefox has completely corrupted. Not sure what is the issue. I have completely removed Firefox. started a new user. deleted the .mozilla directory from my home directory. In both my user and the new user if I open a terminal and enter firefox i get sementation fault and that is it. I have since had to download firefox from mozilla and copy it to /usr/lib and link the firefox executable to /usr/bin. From that i can get firefox to run again. I have no idea what is happening. Or what got damaged. If this damaged the system files in some way I may end up doing a clean install. But the base Firefox seems to be working fine.

I see the issues others are having. Problem with mine is I haven't updated in almost 2 weeks. Shouldn't have been a problem. It only happened when I went to those two sites. I've been running fine since then. Will try a full update tomorrow. But the manual firefox install is running fine.

2 things:
You should always do a full update first.
Installing from outside the repos is advised against and is officially unsupported.
